EMPLOYEE RESOURCES 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: The Management & Professional Development Center will present "Creating a Motivating Environment" on March 27; "The Legal Environment of Business: Rules for Managers" on April 17; and "Planning and Organizing Skills for Managers" on May 8. All workshops are held in 1-3 CBB from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. UNI staff receive a discounted fee of $140, which includes materials, lunch and refreshments. NATIONAL SECURITY ALERT STATUS -- ORANGE ALERT: The country is under a heightened security alert (orange alert). Faculty, staff and students are encouraged go about business as usual, but also pay extra attention to safety and security on campus. POTENTIAL STUDENT PROTESTS: Several national activist groups are encouraging students to walk out of college classes if war is declared. The UNI Anti-War Coalition is planning a walk-out the day after war begins. The UNI policies regarding classroom attendance will remain in effect. Questions regarding academic polices should go to the provost's office. Questions regarding student conduct/issues should go to the associate vice president for Educational & Student Services.

IOWA PUBLIC TELEVISION WAR SPECIAL -- If the United States goes to war, Iowa Public Television will produce a special program to examine the action from several perspectives. KUNI may be asked to host an ICN site where guest experts can be interviewed. Several UNI experts are on the list of possible experts.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: The UNI chapter of Habitat for Humanity and the Social Work Club will host "Shanty town" an event to raise awareness about homelessness on Friday, April 11 in the Commons courtyard. Participants will sleep outdoors in cardboard "homes" they will create. Register online by replying to shantytownuni@yahoo.com Participation is limited to the first 50 respondents.

"FROM BOMBS TO BREAST CANCER: WOMEN AND WAR STORIES": Monday, March 24, 7 p.m., Seerley 115. Dr. Evelyne Accad, Professor of French at the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana, an internationally acclaimed writer, singer, songwriter, poet, teacher, and women's rights activist, will discuss the issues of war, breast cancer, excision, oppression, and female solidarity.
