NEW SILVERPLATTER DATABASE INTERFACE: Rod Library will be offering demonstrations of the new SilverPlatter WebSPIRS interface, used with databases such as ERIC and PsycINFO, on Jan. 23 from 10 to 11 a.m. and Jan. 24 from 11 a.m. - noon in room 286. DINING SPECIALS: Take advantage of these specials during the month of January: 23rd Street Market at the Commones: Krispy Kreme donut and small coffee for 99 cents; Biscotti's at Redeker Center: Bagel, cream cheese and a Dole juice for $1.40; Food Carts at SEC, CBB, and WRC: Pre-made sandwich, soup and bottled pop or water for $4.20. Crunch Break, the food cart at the WRC, is now open 5-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. This is in addition to the Monday through Friday lunch schedule.

STUDENT COMPUTER CENTERS: SCCs provide convenient computing and network access for students, faculty & staff in various facilities. These centers are located in the Rod Library, Maucker Union, Redeker Center, Redeker Cyber bar, ROTH Complex, Schindler Education Center, Campbell Hall, Lawther Hall, Bridge Lounge, Wellness Center, and Towers Center. Each Computer Center offers a variety of software applications, access to UNI's e-mail system and the Internet as well as laser printing.

ROD LIBRARY DATABASE OF THE MONTH: netLibrary, a customized collection of over 5,000 electronic books. To access UNI's custom Web site, choose netLibrary on the Library's Electronic Resources menu at http://www.library.uni.edu/er2/ Search the collection, browse a book, or create an account to check out a title. Records for all titles also appear in UNISTAR.

FAST TRAC ENTREPRENEURIAL TRAINING: The UNI Regional Business Center will host Fast Trac, a national training program for new and existing entrepreneurs. Each session includes classroom instruction, a presentation by an expert from the local business community, and an opportunity to network with other Cedar Valley entrepreneurs. Classes take place on Saturday mornings, from 8:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 25 - March 15, at the UNI Regional Business Center, 212 E. 4th St., Waterloo. The fee is $199 per business. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: The Management & Professional Development Center will present "Creating a Motivating Work Environment" on Jan. 28, and repeated Feb. 18; and "Guiding Employees Through Change" on Feb. 13, and repeated March 6. These workshops are part of the MPDC's Management Training Consortium. UNI employees are offered a discounted fee of $140. HOTEL DISCOUNTS: Purchasing reports that Negotiations are complete for 2003 discount rates on the State Universities of America (SUA) hotel agreement. The new agreement period is Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2003. The various discount average is around 32%. MEN'S BASKETBALL: The UNI men's basketball team hosts Indiana State Thursday, Jan. 16, at 7:05 p.m., in the Dome. For only $30 families can join the Family Fun Zone and receive 4 tickets, 4 soft drinks, 4 slices of pizza and a tub of popcorn.

SYMPHONY: The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony, led by music director Jason Weinberger, will present an all-Mozart performance tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. at the Oster Regent Theatre, Cedar Falls. LEGISLATIVE FORUMS: A Legislative Public Forum hosted by numerous local agencies and organizations, including UNI, will take place Saturday, Jan. 18, at Area Education Agency 7 Building, 3712 Cedar Heights Drive, Cedar Falls. The general public is invited to hear remarks from area legislators and for an opportunity to ask questions of area lawmakers. Julia Wallace, dean of UNI's College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, is forum moderator. The event begins at 9:30 a.m.with an informal coffee; the forum starts at 10 a.m.
