SPRING FITNESS CLASS REGISTRATION: Registration for Spring Fitness Classes has started. Stop in WRC 101 to sign-up (8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. M-F). StudioIT RESERVATIONS: ITS Educational Technology is taking reservations for spring 2003 for StudioIT (Studio for Innovative Teaching), a flexible, interactive technology classroom located in Lang 245. StudioIT is equipped with a touch screen SMART Board projector with integrated instructor computer, 20 Gateway wireless laptop computers, a VCR, and a Polycom video conferencing unit and is available at no charge to UNI faculty to use for classroom instruction. PADDLING PANTHER SWIM LESSONS: The Paddling Panther Learn-to-Swim Program is available to children of UNI students, faculty and staff. The spring session, from Jan. 18 - May 3, includes preschool through level VI. Lessons are taught on Saturdays for 40 minutes at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. (dependent upon demand). Cost is $35 and registration and further details can be attained by e-mailing christopher.denison@uni.edu

DECEMBER PAY CHECKS: Payday is December 31. Staff direct deposit notices are available for pick-up at the Mail Center from 10 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Direct deposit notices not picked up on that date will be delivered in campus mail on Thursday, Jan. 2. Staff paychecks will be mailed as usual to staff home address. December paychecks and direct deposit notices for students are mailed to the student's home, not local address.

CONTROLLER'S OFFICE DEADLINES: The Controller's Office will be closed for the Christmas break beginning Tuesday, Dec. 24 until Thursday, Jan. 2. Outgoing mail is processed in Iowa City, so Accounts Payable checks will be processed on Friday, Dec. 20 and placed in the outgoing mail to ensure prompt delivery. Request for Payments and Travel Reimbursement Forms should be in the Controller's Office no later than Tuesday, Dec. 17 at noon in order to be guaranteed to be in the Friday, Dec. 20 check run. Checks will be processed based on vendor terms as established in the supplier database.

COOKIE DOUGH: The 23rd St. Market, Biscotti's and Bent Fork in Maucker Union are selling 3.5-pound containers of frozen cookie dough for $6.49 a tub: chocolate chip, chocolate chocolate chip, peanut butter, molasses, sugar, peanut butter chocolate chip and monster. "TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD" AUDITIONS: Theatre UNI will hold auditions for "To Kill a Mockingbird" on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 14 & 15, from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Strayer-Wood Theatre. Performances are in April. For more information, visit the Theatre UNI Web site.

MAUCKER UNION CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: The elevator to the lower level will be closed from Dec. 23 through approximately Sept. 2003. Most food selections currently offered in Club '91 will be moved to the Expansion for the spring semester: The food court area (Blimpies, Asian Creation, Bent Fork and Freshens) will close Wednesday, Dec. 18 for reconstruction. Club '91 will be open for service on Thursday and Friday (Dec. 19/20). No food service will be available in the Union during the holiday break. Beginning Monday, Jan. 13 all Union food service will be relocated in Expansion C of the Union. Pizza, subs, coffee, bagels, and muffins will be available. Hours of service will be Monday-Thursday: 7am-11pm; Friday: 7am-10pm; Saturday: 10am-10pm; Sunday: noon-11pm.

UNI LOCAL FOOD PROJECT: Iowa Public Television will run a story which will feature the UNI Local Food Project's accomplishments in expanding local markets for local farmers in Black Hawk and neighboring counties. The program will air on Friday Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. on "Market to Market" and will be re-run on Sunday Dec. 15 at 12:30 p.m.

STRESS RELIEF RUN: The Panther Pacers Running Club is sponsoring a "Stress Release Run" on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. The run starts at the Mauker Union. CELEBRATE THE SEASON: holiday celebration, takes place Thursday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. in the Maucker Union Expansion. The event will includewinter celebrations of several cultures and religions. Featured will be explanations of holiday celebrations observed by Muslims, East Indians,African Americans, Latinos, and those of the Christian and Jewish faiths.Following will be a series of interactive games, activities and displays allowing attendees to learn more about the topics covered. Santa Claus will make his traditional visit.

FACULTY ART EXHIBITION: Ends Dec. 13. The faculty show is a formal presentation of art media in painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, sculpture, ceramics, photography and installation. This week's gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

UNI WRESTLING: The Panthers hosts the #2-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday, Dec. 13 in the Dome. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.

"AND THE BAND PLAYED ON..." CONCERT: The band program at Price Laboratory School presents a concert on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Butzier Auditorium. The concert is patterned after an “old fashioned concert in the park,” complete with foliage, patriotic decorations, hot dogs, popcorn, and pop. Concessions open at 7 p.m. in the auditorium lobby. There is no admission charge for the concert, but a free-will offering will be accepted to help defray the concert expenses.

SYMPHONY: The W-CF Symphony will present their Holiday Pops Dec. 13 & 14, 7:30 p.m. at the GBPAC. Featured guests include the Cedar Harmony Chorus of Sweet Adelines, bell ringer Aaron Hansen and vocalist Effie Burt. Tickets at 3-7469 and at the door starting at 6 p.m.
