SPEECH AND DEBATE TEAM INTEREST MEETING: The UNI Speech and Debate
Team (Forensic Program) will hold their fall interest meeting at
6 p.m. on Wednesday Aug. 28 in Lang Hall 040. Everyone is welcome.

FITNESS CLASS REGISTRATION: Old favorites are still offered plus a
new classes and new formats; including Water Kickboxing, Belly
Dancing, Super Sundays, Buddy Walks and more. Classes start Tuesday,
September 3.

REMEMBER HEALTHBEAT: Located in the East Gym basement, HealthBeat
has the same cardio and weight equipment as the WRC. Hours for
HealthBeat are from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Shower and locker
facilities are available!

STUDENT WEBCT WORKSHOPS:ITS Educational Technology once again will
offer Student WebCT workshops this fall. There are four different
days with 24 different times to take the one hour workshop. Students
will learn how to log onto a course, change their password, and use
the basic tools within WebCT including email, discussions, chat, and
the calendar tool. There is limited seating (20) for each workshop
so if a student wants to guarantee a spot they should call 3-2309
for a reservation. Times, days, and location are on our Web site.

FALL MASSAGE SCHEDULE: Massages will be offered in the Wellness
Resource Lab, WRC Room 104 on Wednesdays from 11-5 and Thursdays from
11-4 during the Fall semester. The cost is $10 for 15 minutes.
Sessions up to an hour may be purchased. Pay by cash, check, u-bill,
or payroll deduct. Gift certificates available as well.

MEMFIS FOR STUDENT EMPLOYEES: Classes for student employees have
been scheduled. To register, go to (or have your students go to)
https://access.uni.edu/cgi-bin/memfis_train/memfis_train.cgi
These sessions are designed for student employees but are open to
anyone. Student employees who will be accessing the MEMFIS system
for their jobs must be added to the position hierarchy before they
can get their passwords. To add your student employee to the
hierarchy, go to https://access.uni.edu/forms/index.shtml#M
and complete a MEMFIS Authorization for Access.

ONLINE UPDATE: After reviewing research done by the Center for
Social & Behavioral Research, UM&PR has decided to discontinue
Campus News Network(CNN). Several of the standing columns in CNN will
be incorporated into UNI Online. From time to time, links to Kudos
and UNI in Motion will be included. UNI Online will continue to
evolve to better meet the communication needs of the university.
Semiweekly production (Tuesdays and Thursdays) resumes the week
of August 26. MyUNIverse News (for students) resumed production
yesterday.

LEARN TO SWIM: The Paddling Panthers Learn-to-Swim Program is
taking registration for the fall semester. Lessons are available

NEW LIBRARY REMOTE ACCESS METHOD: On Aug. 2, Rod Library
implemented an improved and less complicated remote access method.
The new method involves NO computer set up for off-campus access to
Rod Library's restricted databases. Additional information can be

on campus have caused traffic and parking to be redirected. Visit

Vilsack will host a news conference at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 in

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR FRANCIS E. "DEE" SMITH: There will be a Memorial
Service to honor the life of Francis E. "Dee" Smith who served as
a Professor of English and Humanities at UNI from 1950 - 1979. The
service will be held at the East Solarium Room of the Western Home
on Saturday Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Iowa
branch of the Nature Conservancy.

students conducting research with human participants (nee subjects)
MUST use a revised application and consent form. Forms and updated

INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY RE-ACCREDITATION:The visiting team from the
National Association of Industrial Technology (NAIT) has recommended
full re- accreditation for four of UNI's academic programs in
Industrial Technology: Construction Management, Graphic
Communications, Manufacturing Technology, and Technology Management.
The final decision is expected in November. The NAIT visiting
team recommendation highlighted the national quality of the UNI
Department of Industrial Technology programs.

CONVOCATION: A convocation to mark the beginning of the academic
year will take place at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 28 in the Great
Hall, GBPAC. Your attendance will help stress the importance of this

UNI IN THE NEWS: ABC's 20/20 piece showcasing Dr. Kim MacLin's
research on criminal stereotypes and lineups and featuring several
UNI students participating in experiments, was scheduled to air last
Friday. It has been postponed to later in the fall so that the show
can do additional shooting of her new research looking at criminal
stereotypes and eyewitness identification. This will ultimately
result in a longer piece and thus more coverage of the research and
the UNI students.

EVENTS

ART EXHIBITS: Both exhibits run from August 26 - September 20.
"Residue of Silence." Minnesota artists, Francisca de Beurges
Rosenthal, Joyce Lyon, and Howard Oransky, present very personal
responses to the Holocaust in this first exhibition of the fall
semester. The exhibition is co-sonsored by The Center for
Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the University of Minnesota at
Minneapolis. Opening reception is Aug. 26 following the artists'
6 p.m. lectures in the KAB Art Auditorium.
The "Artists of St. Petersburg: The Russian State Pedagogical
University" exhibition features more than 120 works of art from
the faculty and students of that institution and is sponsored in
part by the UNI Office of International Programs. Opening
reception Sept. 17 following an 8 p.m. lecture by Professors
Gennady Khoroshaylov and Ksenia Pochtennaya in the KAB Art
Auditorium.

QUICK BOOKS PRO TRAINING: The UNI Regional Business Center will
offer Quick Books Pro Training to the general public on Tuesdays, 9 am-noon,
from Sept. 10 - Oct. 1. The first session on Sept. 10 is an optional, introductory
session for those new to the software or in need of a refresher. Classes take
place at 212 E. 4th St., Waterloo. The fee for the course is $149 and includes a
