NEW LIBRARY REMOTE ACCESS METHOD:On August 2, Rod Library implemented
an improved and less complicated remote access method. The new method
involves NO computer set up for off-campus access to Rod Library's
restricted databases. Additional information can be found at
FIRE EXTINGUISHER TRAINING OPPORTUNITY:2002 Fire Extinguisher Training has openings.
August 16 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
August 22 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
August 23 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Cost is $10.00, sessions take 30 minutes. Participants will have the opportunity to extinguish an actual fire. For scheduling call
3-2004 or 3-5855. The deadline August 9.

by the Rod Library - will be available to students and faculty

NEW SUPPLY VENDOR FOR 2002: UNI Campus supply has entered into a
discounted purchasing agreement with Office Depot effective July 1.
All orders for office supplies from Campus Supply (except for some
'special order' items) will utilize Office Depot. This new partnership
will help keep product prices lower. The discount program has many
benefits, specifically:
UNI "Contract/Hot List" – a list of frequently purchased items with
specially negotiated pricing. A catalog of these items plus specially
discounted catalog items will be available for distribution to users
about August 1.
Requests to Campus Supply – All requisitions received from departments
at Campus Supply will be ordered 'same day' with delivery 'next day'.
Distribution will be daily to user departments.

WRC REGISTRATION: Wellness and Recreation Services will begin
accepting registrations for Facility User Privileges on August 15,
effective from September 1, 2002 - August 31, 2003 at an
individual cost of $140.00. Registration provides access to Wellness/Recreation
Center facilities as well as to the East Gym
Pool and fitness area (Health Beat). Register on-line at
http://www.uni.edu/wellrec. Click on Facility and Staff Wellness
and select Facility User Registration, or visit WRC 101 and register
in person.

KUDOS: The latest installment of Kudos is available at
Effective August 5, UNI will implement a new discount agreement
with United Parcel Service (UPS) based on Regents-wide volumes.
Outbound discounts apply to express mail as well as overnight
packages.Inbound discounts apply to all packages 250# or less.
Campus Supplywill process UPS express mail and outbound parcels.
The Mail Center will no longer process outgoing express mail from
other vendors. Any department wishing to use another vendor will
need to manage that process themselves. For specific information or
questions on pick up and delivery, phone Alvin Kyhl or Larry Gordon.
UNI IN THE NEWS: Harry Brod, Philosophy and Religion, has been
interviewed for a radio program, Gender Talk, which airs in the
Boston area on WMBR. The show explores masculinity studies and
feminism and is available on their Web site
IOWA STATE FAIR EXHIBIT: UNI will exhibit at the Iowa State Fair,
August 8-18 in Des Moines. Over 300 alumni, faculty, staff and
student volunteers will work at UNI's exhibit in the northeast
promenade section of the Varied Industries Building. Highlights
A video and display showing ABIL as a national leader in crop-based
lubricants and greases.
An alumni display featuring approximately 40 graduates who are
making Iowa a better place.
University Book & Supply will sell merchandise on site.
August 10, Governor's Celebrity Steer Show, Rick Hartzell will
show a steer for the Davis County Cattleman's Association.
August 12, 4-5 p.m., Rick Klein, IWRC, will demonstrate IWRC's
Laser Touch Spray Gun in the Homemaker's Theatre.
August 13, noon-12:30, Kirk Henderson, UNI Native Roadside
Vegetation Center, will present on prairie wilflower gardens in the Homemaker's Theatre.
August 15, 9-9:30 a.m., Patricia Higby, Center for Energy and
Environmental Education, will feature the program, "Energy Jeopardy,"
in the Homemaker's Theatre
DES MOINES ARTS FESTIVAL: Nearly 100 alumni showed their UNI pride
during the Des Moines Arts Festival, June 28-30. Alumni worked
in Blue Bunny Ice Cream trucks, selling ice cream to thousands of
visitors during the Festival. Arts Festival organizers donated a
portion of the ice cream profits to the Alumni Association
Scholarship Fund. Alumni earned $1379 for the first Alumni
Association Scholarships to be awarded in the fall of 2003 to two
undergraduates and one graduate student.
REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS RESUME: Beginning Monday, August 19th,
regular business hours (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) for University
offices resume. Supervisors of staff who do not have e-mail
access, please inform them of regular business hours.
WRC SHUTDOWN: The Wellness/Recreation Center will be closed August
10-18 and will reopen Monday, August 19. Call the WRS Info Line,
3-2391, for August interim facility hours.


LIBRARY HOURS: Between the Summer Session and Fall Semester 2002
From Aug. 3 until Aug. 25, IRTS Library and Labs will be closed.
Monday, Aug. 26th at 7:45 a.m. IRTS will reopen for business.
