DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS:
The Management & Professional Develpment Center will present "Understanding
and Managing Stress" on Wed., July 17, and "Effective Communication:
Getting Your Point Across" on Tues., July 30. Workshops are held in
CBB 1 - 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the $132 fee includes participant

Learn more about people from other countries and cultures. The UNI Culture
& Intensive English Program offers American students the opportunity
to meet and learn more about international students through its Conversation
Partners Program. Volunteer to meet students from other countries for

CONSTRUCTION
NOTICE-DAKOTA STREET CLOSING:
Sometime this week Dakota Street, between Missouri Street and McCollum
Science Hall, will close due to construction of a new steam utility
tunnel. In conjunction with this work, the westbound lanes of University
Ave. will close. Once this phase is complete, the work will transfer
to the south side of Universtiy and at that time, the eastbound lanes
of University Ave. will close. The work related to the tunnel construction
in this area is scheduled to be complete in mid August.

BACKGROUND CHECKS:
The final draft of a pre-employment background check policy has been
submitted to the Cabinet and the policy was approved for implementation
effective July 1. The policy requires that all final candidates for
open positions have their work history, references and academic and
professional credentials verified. In addition, Division Vice Presidents
are determining which positions may require background checks other
than those noted above. The Background Check Policy will soon be posted
at the HRS Web site and as a University Policy.

Laramie Project, The Threepenny Opera, Roosters, and To Kill a Mockingbird.

OPENING
CEREMONY FOR NEW TRAIL:
A ceremony commemorating Iowa's first "glasphalt" trail, will be Thurs.,
June 27th at 2:00 p.m. at the Seerley Blvd. entrance to the trail
near the Hearst Center for the Arts. The recreational trail is made
of "glasphalt," a mix of ground glass and asphalt. For more information

STURGIS FALLS PARADE:
UNI will be part of the Sturgis Falls Parade, June 29. The parade
begins at 10 a.m. UNI's 48 ft. float, themed, "You Can Catch The Stars,"
includes staff from the GBPAC, UNI Athletics and members of the UNI
cheerleading and spirit squads. Students from UNI's Jazz Band will
also perform, weather permitting.

DES MOINES ARTS FESTIVAL:
UNI and the UNI Alumni Association will be part of the Des Moines
Arts Festival this weekend, June 28-30. More than 100 UNI alumni will
volunteer at three ice cream trucks located on the festival grounds.
A portion of the profits will be donated to the Alumni Association
Endowed Scholarship, which is awarded to a prospective student; based
on financial need. The festival is free. Festival hours are: Friday,
June 28, 2- 9 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Sunday, June
