Learn more about people from other countries and cultures. The UNI Culture
& Intensive English Program offers American students the opportunity
to meet and learn more about international students through its Conversation
Partners Program. Volunteer to meet students from other countries for

NEW VICE PRESIDENT FOR ADMINISTRATION
& FINANCE: Thomas G. Schellhardt has begun his first
week as UNI's new vice president for administration & finance. He
will oversee athletics, business and financial services, facilities
planning, the physical plant, and public safety. Schellhardt holds
a B.S. in business administration from Southern Illinois University,
and an M.S. in Education Administration from Purdue University. He
comes to UNI from Kansas State University, where he served 12 years
as associate vice president for administration and finance. He replaces
John Conner, who held the position for 17 years and left UNI in 2000.
Eunice Dell served as interim vice president untiyesterday. Thomas
Schellhardt's phone extension is 3-2383.

MAIL CENTER CHANGES:
Effective July 1, the university's Mail Center will operate under
the auspices of the Department of Transportation. Although several
changes will occur, the university community can still expect timely,
efficient service. The university will partner with Central Mail at
the University of Iowa to meter and process outgoing UNI mail. The
U of I is partnering with PSI, a bulk mail presorting firm, to achieve
postal savings for both universities. Mail will be picked up at the
Mail Center by PSI twice each day, and taken to Iowa City for processing.
The UNI Mail Center will continue to sort and deliver all incoming
mail. The second orientation session is today, June 18, from 9 to
10 a.m. in Royal Oak Room, Maucker Union. For further details visit:

SOLAR BOAT TEAM TO COMPETE:
UNI's zero emission boat will represent UNI in the 9th Solar Electric
Boat World Championship June 19-22 in Buffalo, New York. For more

The following people are the new employees hired in May. New merit
employees are Amber Jones, food service supervisor, Redeker and Timothy

REFEREES NEEDED:
UNI will be hosting the Iowa Games Basketball Regional this Saturday
and Sunday, June 22-23. Volunteer referees are needed to work the
games (meals and a t-shirt will be provided). For more information,

SUMMER INTRAMURAL SPORTS TO
ORGANIZE: There will be an organizational meeting
on Monday, June 17, 4:30 pm, in the WRC room 150 for students, faculty,
and staff interested in participating in intramural Co-ed slow pitch
softball and/or Co-ed 4on4 sand volleyball during the summer session.
All potential team managers and interested participants should attend
to discuss eligiblity, rules, scheduling format, days/times for play,

ART EXHIBITS:
The UNI Gallery of Art presents two summer exhibitions: "ALCHEMY:
From Common Materials To Extraordinary Objects," an invitational exhibition
of jewelry and small sculpture, and the "UNI Permanent Collection:
Works from the Koob Residence." Both exhibitions run from June 10
to August 4 and are free and open to the public. The gallery will
be closed all day July 4

OPENING CEREMONY FOR NEW TRAIL:
A ceremony commemorating Iowa's first "glasphalt" trail, will be Thursday,
June 27th at 2:00 p.m. at the Seerley Blvd. entrance to the trail
near the Hearst Center for the Arts. The recreational trail is made
of "glasphalt," a mix of ground glass and asphalt. For more information
