TRAINING GRANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
Effective for the Summer 2002 semester, the grant funds will be equally
divided between all applicants each semester. No late applications
will be accepted. After the deadline, all applicants will receive
a letter of approval with an estimated grant amount. After proof of
satisfactory course completion is received, available funds will be
disbursed. The deadlines are as follows: Summer 2002 semester: June
1, 5 p.m. Fall 2002 semester: September 1, 5 p.m. Spring 2003 semester:

NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDY SAFETY
GUIDELINES: The UNI International Programs Guidelines
for Health and Safety and Emergency Action Protocolis now available
on the Web at http://fp.uni.edu/studyabroad/HTMLpages/Health_Safety.asp.
The document outlines areas of responsibility and provides step-by-step
procedures to follow in the event of an emergency involving UNI students,
faculty and staff abroad for purposes of study or research under the
auspices of UNI. These new guidelines complement existing UNI policy
on International Study Programs. The policy is available on the Web

BUDGET
UPDATE:
NEWS CONFERENCE -- President Koob will host a news conference at 9
a.m., tomorrow to discuss potential budget reductions. The news conference
can be viewed live via the Web at http://www.uni.edu/livemedia.

CAMPUS CONSTRUCTION UPDATES:
Construction will continue this week on North Campus Street. A temporary
roadway will be constructed along the west end of the Gilchrist A
lot. A chain link fence will block off the construciton site. Campus
St. will be closed and access to Gilchrist will be from the north
side. Access to the Gilchrist loading dock will be from the east.
Steam tunnel repair work has begun and will run through mid-August,
in front of Gilchrist Hall. Please refer to the campus map at http://www.uni.edu/pubrel/ccm.html
Also, the north- and south-bound sidewalk on the east side of
Gilchrist will be closed. Pedestrians will need to use the sidewalks
west of the Greenhouse. ---------------------------------------------------------------
CAMPUS ADVISORY GROUP MEETING:
The Campus Advisory Group will meet Fri., May 24, at 8:30 a.m. with
President Koob in Gilchrist 207. Employees and students are encouraged
to contact group members before May 24 if they wish to make suggestions

STATE FAIR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
UNI will exhibit in the Varied Industries Building at the Iowa State
Fair in Des Moines. Highlights include sales of University Book and
Supply merchandise, panther paw tattoos for children, ABIL Research
program and more. Faculty and staff volunteers are needed to work
UNI's exhibit in six hour shifts, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. or 3 p.m. - 9 p.m.,
August 8-18. Volunteer and shift preferences are scheduled on a first-come
first-served basis. To volunteer or for more information, please email

STUDENT ACTIVITIES OFFICE MOVES:
The Student Activities offices and NISG have moved from the lower
level of Maucker Union to SSC 103. This is a temporary move. Mail
code, phone and fax numbers remain the same.

VIC IS CLOSED:
The Visitor Information Center (VIC), located on Campus St., is closed
for the summer. A sign is posted at the VIC directing visitors with
questions to the Conferences and Visitor Services Office (CVS) on
the corner of 27th Street and Hudson Road. If you have questions,
contact CVS, at 3-6899. REMINDER: Parking Permits for guests are ONLY
available from Public Safety, 3-2712.

A Web site development conference for users who already have a basic
knowledge of html and some experience developing a Web site will be
offered at UNI Friday, June 7. The conference was planned by a cross-section

a Web site expand their skills (not an entry- level conference). For
