STAFF TRAINING GRANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Effective for the Summer 2002 semester, the grant funds will be equally divided between all applicants each semester. No late applications will be accepted. After the deadline, all applicants will receive a letter of approval with an estimated grant amount. After proof of satisfactory course completion is received, available funds will be disbursed. The deadlines are as follows: Summer 2002 semester: June 1, 5 p.m. Fall 2002 semester: September 1, 5 p.m. Spring 2003 semester: February 1, 2003, 5 pm. NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDY SAFETY GUIDELINES: The UNI International Programs Guidelines for Health and Safety and Emergency Action Protocolis now available on the Web at http://fp.uni.edu/studyabroad/HTMLpages/Health_Safety.asp. The document outlines areas of responsibility and provides step-by-step procedures to follow in the event of an emergency involving UNI students, faculty and staff abroad for purposes of study or research under the auspices of UNI. CNN, ONLINE, MYUNIVERSE UPDATE: Campus News Network will not be produced this summer. Production of this e-newsletter will be re-evaluated in the fall in light of budget constraints. UNI Online will be issued once a week in the summer, on Tuesdays, beginning May 14. Deadline for copy is noon on the preceding Monday. MyUNIverse News will not be produced this summer. It will return in time for the start of the fall semester.

MEMORIAL DAY DISPLAY: Stop by the Rod Library and check out the display case on the main floor. In honor of Memorial Day the May exhibit features the WAVES (Women's Appointed Volunteer Emergency Service) at UNI during World War II.

CAMPUS CONSTRUCTION: Steam tunnel repair will begin Wednesday, May 15 and run through mid-August, in front of Gilchrist Hall. Please refer to the campus map at http://www.uni.edu/pubrel/ccm.html A temporary road will be constructed through the A lot, allowing access to the Baker lot for deliveries and emergency vehicles. This road also will allow access to the A parking lot. Access to the A lot also will be allowed from Ohio St. and Redeker Dr. The metered lot in front of Gilchrist will be closed. Ohio Street and University Avenue, and Twenty-seventh Street and Hudson Road will be the primary entrances to campus. Also necessitated will be the closing of the north- and south-bound sidewalk on the east side of Gilchrist, running past the Greenhouse. Pedestrians will need to use the sidewalks west of the Greenhouse.

VIC IS CLOSED: The Visitor Information Center (VIC), located on Campus Street, has closed for the summer. A sign is posted at the VIC directing visitors with questions to the Conferences and Visitor Services Office (CVS) on the corner of 27th Street and Hudson Road. If you have questions, contact CVS, 3-6899. REMINDER: Parking permits for guests are ONLY available from Public Safety, 3-2712.

30TH STREET RECONSTRUCTION: 30th Street between Ilinois Street and Ohio will be closed for reconstruction beginning Monday May 13. The construction period is expected to last 6 weeks and weather permitting, the street will reopen to traffic in late June 2002. Once the reconstruction has been completed and the street is open, traffic flow is designated to be ONE-WAY west bound.

HARD HAT AREA: Due to construction, the arena area of the UNI-Dome is closed to students and staff. If anyone needs access, call the contractor to discuss arrangements at 3-3099. Visitors should enter through the North end and check in at the contractor's trailer. This is a construction area and hard hats are required. Any questions call John Mirchich 3-7369.

RUGBY TEAM WINS: The UNI Women's Rugby team won the D2 National Championship in Blaine, MN on May 4. They beat the University of Minnesota 41-5. This is the second year in a row that the team has won the national title. ---------------------------------------------------------------
