MORE MEMFIS INFO: The MEMFIS Project Management Team is asking for everyone’s cooperation for a smooth transition to MEMFIS systems July 1, 2001. Here’s how you can help: Review all encumbrances on your March financial statements. If you have encumbrances that need to be closed, contact Jane Campbell, 3-2212. If you have received items on a purchase order that has not been paid, contact the vendor to ensure an invoice has been sent. As soon as possible, finalize your remaining purchasing decisions for the year, including blanket orders. The goal is to have very few outstanding purchase orders or payments on June 30. Questions or concerns, call Roxanne Conrad at 3-3524.

E-BOOKS: Rod Library has purchased a collection of over 4,500 electronic books from netLibrary. This is a pilot project made possible by a joint purchase with the other Regent libraries. NEWS

SEARCH FOR VP OF ADMINISTRATION & FINANCE: The first of four VP for Administration & Finance candidates, Doug Fraunfelder, will be interviewing on campus on April 23-24. An open forum will be held on April 24 from 3:15-4:15 p.m. in the Royal Oak Room, Maucker Union. All faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend. This informal question and answer session will give you a chance to get to know the candidates.

UNIVERSITY CONVOCATION SET FOR FALL: Please mark your calendars and plan to attend the University Convocation honoring the beginning of the 2001-2002 academic year at 3:30 p.m. Wed., Aug. 29, in the Dome. Morris Dees, chief trial counsel for The Southern Poverty Law Center, will be the keynote speaker. His topic will be "Responding to Hate: Voices of Hope and Tolerance." PRINT SERVICES AWARDS: UNI Print Services recently won three awards at the Cedar Valley Graphic Arts Association's Annual Gallery of Superb Printing Awards Banquet. A Gold Award was received for the "Priscilla Baskerville" poster in the One-Color Poster category. A Gold Award was also received for the "Iowa Energy Poster Contest" in the Multi-Piece Display category. A Silver Award was received for "A Special Presidents Club Event" flyer in the One-Color Single Sheet Flyer category.

2001 REGENTS STAFF EXCELLENCE AWARD NOMINATIONS: For the 10th consecutive year the Professional & Scientific employees at the UNI have an opportunity to recognize two P&S employees for their outstanding contributions to the university. COMAIR CANCELLATION: The Purchasing Dept. has advised that Comair has temporarily suspended its operations due to a work stoppage called by the Air Line Pilots Association. Effective April 19, 2001, all Comair flights for the next 30 days will be cancelled. This means all flights are canceled through Fri., May 18. Flights will continue to be cancelled on a rolling 30-day basis until further notice.

MEMFIS TRAINING: If you missed previous training sessions for the MEMFIS Project there will be one more opportunity during the week of April 30-May 3. FASTTRAC: The UNI Regional Business Center will present a five-week entrepreneurial training course starting Mon., April 23. Sessions will be held Mon. and Thurs. evenings from 6- 9 p.m. through May 17. Sessions will be held at the UNI Regional Business Center, 212 E. 4th St. in Waterloo. FastTrac is a nationally acclaimed program available for $199 per business designed to provide new and existing entrepreneurs a broad base knowledge in managing and operating a small business in today's economy. PEP RALLY: The UNI women's rugby team will play in the national college rugby competition in Rockford, Ill., May 5-6. A pep rally in the team's honor will take place Thurs., April 26, at 5 p.m. on the East Plaza of the WRC. In the event of rain, the event will be moved indoors to the north gymnasium area. Featured speakers will be President Robert Koob; Jennifer Murra, adviser for the women's rugby team; Steve Murra, volunteer coach for the team; and Libby Caplan, team captain. UNI pep and spirit squad members will be on hand as well.

NIELSEN MEMORIAL SERVICE: A public memorial service honoring Ross A. Nielsen, emeritus professor and head of teaching at the UNI, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sat., April 28, following the annual UNI Emeritus Association Luncheon. The service will be held in Ross Nielsen Fieldhouse, which bears his name, at Price Laboratory School on the northern end of the UNI campus, 19th and College Streets.

THESIS EXHIBITIONS: This exhibition marks the very first time that a graduating BFA class has been allowed the honor of a showing in the main gallery. Graduating BFA students James Greene, Valeri Luepke, Rebecca Smith, Chawne Paige, and Molly Hackenmiller will be exhibiting their thesis exhibitions in the Gallery of Art from April 29-May 5. Their will be an opening reception for the artists on Sun., April 29th, at 2 p.m., all are welcome. Gallery hours are: Mon-Fri, 9a.m.-5 p.m., Sat & Sun, 12 p.m.-5 p.m. The gallery is located on the first floor of the Kamerick Art Building. For more info call 3-9095.
