GRANTS:
A grants program is offered through the Center for the Enhancement of
Teaching. Its purpose is to provide small grants to faculty who want
to invite graduates to discuss and demonstrate connections between their
work, their lives and their education at UNI with current students.
The deadline to submit proposals for the Summer term is April 15th.

2001 REGENTS STAFF EXCELLENCE AWARD
NOMINATIONS: For the 10th consecutive year the Professional
& Scientific employees at UNI have an opportunity to recognize two P&S
employees for their contributions to the University. Employees are encouraged
to fill out a nomination form and submit it prior to April 27, to the
Chair of the Employee Relations Committee, Sharon Drachenberg, CBB 15,

LEGISLATIVE
UPDATE:
Responding to a sharp downturn in state tax revenues, Governor Vilsack
has proposed $285 million in cuts and revenue adjustments to his FY
2002 budget, including nearly $42 million to be cut from Board of Regents
institutions. The GovernorŐs proposal represents a six percent reduction
for the Regents institutions and most other state agencies and programs.

KOOB BUDGET SPEECH: President

PUBLIC PROTEST POLICY: There
have been some recent public protests on campus. The policy's aim is
to maintain the health, welfare and safety of faculty, staff, students

STUDENT EMPLOYEES OF THE YEAR WINNERS:
Campus departments recognize their student employees during
National Student Employment Week (April 2-6) by displaying signs, giving
thank you gifts, bringing treats to the office and other creative ideas.
Nominations were accepted and a committee selected four students to
receive the award this year. 2000-01 UNI Student Employees of the Year:

WOMEN'S RUGBY TEAM: The
UNI Women's Rugby Team began the spring season last weekend in Chicago
at the Black and Blue Tournament. They won all four of their games thereby
winning the tournament. The team will play in the Collegiate Cup Tournament
Sat., April 7 and Sun., April 8, on the fields behind the UNI-Dome.

DANCE THEATRE: The UNI International
Dance Theatre will present their annual spring concert, Dance Around
the World, Sat., April 7, at 8 p.m. and Sun., April 8, at 2 p.m. in
the Oster Regent Theatre. The concert will feature both faculty and
student choreography, with dances and music from Germany, Russia, Japan,
Mexco, Hungary, Costa Rica, Egypt and the United States. Tickets are
$6 for adults, $4 for students and senior citizens, and are available

of Natural Sciences and Sigma Xi, the scientific research society, will
host a lecture by Michael Turner, "What We Know About How the Universe

of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Unversity of Chicago. A reception
