RETIREES' NAMES NEEDED FOR RECOGNITION
BREAKFAST: The annual retirees' recognition breakfast will
be held Sat., April 28. Faculty and staff who are planning to retire
this academic year are asked to contact Yvonne Duggan in University

Those honored must have worked at UNI for the equivalent of at least

JAMES
EARL JONES TICKETS:
The University of Northern Iowa will host internationally celebrated
actor James Earl Jones at 7:30 p.m., Mon., Jan. 22 in the Great Hall
of the GBPAC. "An Evening with James Earl Jones" is free of charge,
but tickets are required. Tickets will be available exclusively to
current UNI students on Jan. 17-18 at the GBPAC, UNI-Dome, Strayer-Wood
Theatre and UNI Conferences and Visitor Services. GBPAC, CVS and Dome
ticket offices are open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The SWT box office will be
open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 and from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
on Jan. 18-19. Limit two tickets per person. A current UNI student
I.D. is required. Remaining tickets will be made available to the

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. HOLIDAY EVENTS:
UNI will celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr., holiday with a series
of events beginning Monday, Jan. 15, and continuing through Sunday,
Jan. 20. Kicking off the programming will be an address by Ronald
V. Dellums. Dellums, a former California congressman and founding
president of the Congressional Black Caucus, will speak at 7:30 p.m.

SUMMER ORIENTATION STAFF MEMBERS
NEEDED: Do you know students who possess strong communication
and interpersonal skills along with an interest in working with new
students? Sixteen students will be selected to assist with summer

MARATHON RUNNING: Train
to run a 26.2 mile marathon. Class meets 5:15-7 p.m. on Wednesdays
in WRC 250 and at 8 a.m. on Saturday for long runs. Cost is $100 for
UNI students and $120 for employees. The program will culminate in
the running of the Nashville Country Music Marathon on April 28 in

AEROBICS: Sign up for
employee-only combination aerobics. This class combines step and floor
aerobics and is adaptable to all exercise levels. Register in WRC

SWIMMING LESSONS: The
WRC is going to have swimming lessons on Saturday mornings. The times
are 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. We have three new instructors which have guaranteed
to be there most Saturdays, which will help with instructor consistency.

DR. SUE FOLLON SCHOLARSHIP FOR WOMEN
IN LEADERSHIP: A $1,000 scholarship recognizes students
for their leadership contributions and potential to model leadership
for women. Applicants must be undergraduate students who have completed
at least their freshmen year at UNI and will be returning for the
following fall semester. Completed applications must be submitted

CIEP COURSE: UNI's Culture
and Intensive English Program (CIEP) is offering a special course
in the pronunciation of English as a second language. The course is
open to any member of the UNI student body, faculty or staff whose
native language is not English. The class is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday from 3:30 to 4:20 p.m. in Baker 60. Classes begin on
Tuesday, Jan. 16. There is no fee to take the class but space is limited.

The Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony will present "Something Old, Something
Moo and A Rhapsody in Blue" this Friday at the Oster Regent Theatre.
The 7:30 p.m. concert will feature UNI piano faculty member Jeongwon

ADINKRA CLOTH STAMPING WORKSHOP:
The UNI Museums will host a workshop focused on the decorative textiles
used by the Ashanti people of Ghana, Sunday, Jan. 14, 2-4 p.m. at
the University Museum. We will briefly discuss the Ashanti culture,
its use of symbolic designs and how textiles tell the story of many
cultures around the world. Each participant will make a textile during
the workshop. A registration fee of $10 covers all materials. To register,
