PURCHASING AT WAL-MART: Effective immediately Walmarts nationwide
will no longer accept purchase orders. They will however continue
to accept purchases for the university on UNI procurement cards.
Call Jane Campbell 3-2212 to cancel any open purchase orders to
Walmart, or call Roxanne Conrad 3-3524 if you have questions.

UNI WEB DEVELOPERS FORUM: There will be a UNI Web Developers Forum
meeting @ 10 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 8th,in CBB 319. Anyone engaged in
the maintenance of an official UNI web site is encouraged to attend.
The agenda includes a reiteration of the purpose of the forum,
discussion of SSI's and the UNI homepage; the Ultraseek search engine
and customizing it for your department; SSI distribution security and
procedures; and UNI Web Developers Resources. For more information,

CONVOCATION SPEAKER: The Convocation Committee is seeking nominations
for speakers for the 2001 Convocation from students, faculty and staff.
Nominees should engage a broad audience rather than being single-discipline
specific; challenge or inspire on an educational level; and, preferably,
have some kind of book or media artifact that might be used to complement
his or her appearance. Submit background information and a brief,
explanatory statement of why the nominee would be a significant speaker
for this event. Previously nominated speakers may be resubmitted.
Nominations should be received no later than noon, Wed., Nov. 8,
via e-mail at Convocation@uni.edu.

P&S ELECTIONS: P&S Council elections will take place Nov. 6-10.
You will be able to vote on-line anytime during the week by logging
onto access.uni.edu and clicking on "Voting and Surveys". The P&S

HS FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS WILL LIMIT UNI-DOME PARKING: The Iowa High School
Football playoffs begin in the UNI-Dome Nov. 1. While the majority of
the games are at night, there are day games on Friday, Nov. 10, Monday,
Nov. 13 and Friday Nov. 17. There also will be an increase in the number
of daytime visitors to the main campus (campus tours, etc.) due to the
playoffs. The playoffs will primarily impact the lots on the west side of
Hudson Road (North/South Dome, Wellness/Recreation Center). For a complete

SEMINAR: All UNI faculty are invited to a faculty seminar with Hearst
Lecturer, Wendy Doniger, Professor of History of Religions at the
University of Chicago. The seminar will be from 3-5 p.m. on
Wed., Nov. 15 in CBB 319. Seminar participants will discuss a
previously distributed essay on "Rings of Rejection and Recognition
in Ancient India," which focuses on folk tales in which a ring plays
a key role in a story of marital sexual rejection. To sign up for the

GRAND OPENING: Grand Opening in the Union Nov. 7-8 to celebrate the
newest restaurants, Blimpie Subs and Salads, Asian Creations, Freshens
Premium Yogurt, and Seattle's Best Coffee have joined existing Union
restaurants Club Café and JW's to meet the needs of students, staff,
faculty and campus guests. Bent Fork Chili Bar and Grill will be serving
customers later in the semester. The event will include door prizes
plus special menu prices and a live remote broadcast of FM108 Nov. 8.

WOMEN'S RUGBY: The UNI Women's Rugby team won the Sweet Sixteen
Tournament in Rockford,IL., on Oct. 28-29. They beat UW-Madison
68-0 and Southern Illinois University 60-0. The team will compete
in the Final Four in Rockford, IL, on November 4-5.

SPEAKER: Blimpie founder and CEO Tony Conza, of Blimpie International,
is including UNI on his nationwide tour of ten Blimpie locations.
Conza's presentation is "Success: It's a Beautiful Thing" today, at
11 a.m. at the Hemisphere Lounge of Maucker Union. Maucker Union is
the site of one of the newest Blimpie franchises, which opened Oct. 23.

PANTHER VOLLEYBALL: UNI Volleyball looks to win their 53rd consecutive
regular season conference match tonight when they face Bradley in the

MASTER CLASS AND RECITAL: In Ghana, Kakraba Lobi is considered to
be one of the only living virtuosi to have mastered the Gyil
(African xylophone). He is currently on a US tour culminating in
an appearance at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention
in Dallas, TX. He will be at UNI November 2-5, 2000 presenting a
master class on the Gyil Saturday (11/4) at 9 a.m. and a recital on
the Gyil at 3 p.m. Both events are in GBPAC Davis Hall. Please

information. All events are free and open to the public.

SYMPHONY: The Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony will present "A Third of
Scotch" November 3-4 at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Center. Led by

INTI-ILLIMANI: The sounds of the Andes come alive with Chile's most
famous folk ensemble. Inti-Illimani will play at the Gallagher
Bluedorn Performing Arts Center on Sun., Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased by calling 273-SHOW. Enjoy the vibrant
musical tapestry as Inti-Illimani weaves lyrics with ancient harmonies
from over 20 Andean instruments.

EARTH SCIENCE FORUM: The next meeting of the Earth Science Forum
will be Mon., Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. in Latham 125. This Forum will include
a report by Associate Professor Mohammad Iqbal on the Iowa Lakes Project
and a presentation by Professor Tom Hockey on Rock Art of Easter Island
(Rapa Nui). The Forum is open to the public. Pizza is available to
students who wish to talk with the presenters after the talks.
