NCA REACCREDITATION REPORT REVIEW: UNI is in the process of
completing its NCA Self-Study, which is required for
reaccrediting the institution for another 10 years. It is
extremely important for the Self-Study process that the draft
be reviewed by the faculty, staff, and students and that the
Steering Committee receive responses by Oct. 20. In addition
to the web version, copies of the UNI-NCA Self-Study Draft
Report may be downloaded in MS Word 6.0/95 or Adobe Acrobat
(.pdf) from the web site. Hard copies also are available at
the Rod Library Reserve Desk.

UNI TECHNOLOGY POLICIES: The University world wide web policy(9.58)
requires that "Any transactions that require secure communications
(such as in the use of social security, pin, or credit card numbers
over the internet), must receive the approval of the office of the
Associate VP for ITS that the transmission, storage, and use of such
data meets standards for security and privacy, such as using Secure
Socket Layer (SSL)."

INK CARTRIDGES: All Hewlett Packard ink cartridges that end in the
letter "G" have been discontinued. The replacement ink cartridge
now ends with the letter "A". Some machines are still being shipped
with the "G" ink cartridge. This is a lower yield ink cartridge
than the "A" cartridge. Any order received with the "G" cartridge
will be replaced with the "A" cartridge. HP part number C1823A has
been discontinued. The replacement is C1823D or C1823T (twin pack).
When requisitioning cartridges, please give the model number of your
machine and the part number for accurate service. If you have any
questions, call Mary at 3-2451.

SCHOLARSHIP BOOKS: The 2001-2002 scholarship books are now on
the Financial Aid website. There are two books available. One has
information about new freshmen and transfer scholarships, and the
other one contains scholarships for currently enrolled undergraduate
and graduate students.

UNI-CUE AWARDED GEAR UP GRANT FOR LOGAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:
The Department of Education announced that UNI will receive
funding under the Gear Up Program. This grant is for $1.27
million for a period of five years. The purpose of the grant
is to provide Logan Elementary School students with the skills,
motivation, and preparation needed to pursue post-secondary education.

UPCOMING P&S COUNCIL ELECTIONS: Upcoming elections for five new
members of the P&S Council will be held the first full week of
November. Watch for nomination and voting information to follow
in the next two weeks.

SCHOOL OF MUSIC EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED: The student recital
of Mia Craig that was to be held tonight at 7 p.m. has been cancelled.

MIDNIGHT CRAZY HOOPS: UNI Women's Basketball opens the 2000-01
season this Fri. night in the West Gym when they host Midnight
Crazy Hoops. Fans will have the chance to win great prizes,
meet the team and see the Panthers in action for the first time
this year. Plus...two lucky fans will have the chance to hit a
shot for $10,000 cash! The doors open at 11 p.m. and admission

UNI WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Panthers host their final home regular
season game of the year this Sunday afternoon when they battle
Evansville. Match time is 1 p.m. on the field directly west of
the Dome.

MILLENNIUM LECTURE SERIES: "Encounters with a Double-Faced Ghost:
Feminist Scholarship in the New Millennium". Mon., Oct. 16, 7 p.m.
in the Commons Slife Ballroom. Feminist scholars and other researchers
in the social sciences and the humanities have been faced with
challenging contradictions about methods used to understand the
truth of women's lives. Martha J. Reineke, Professor of Religion.

LECTURE BY UNI ARCHEOLOGIST: Dr. Julie Lowell, an archeologist in
the Dept. of Sociology, Anthropology, & Criminology, will be the
featured speaker for the 2000-2001 Phi Alpha Theta/Department of
History Lecture Series on Wed., Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. in Seerley 115.
Dr. Lowell's topic is "Women and Men in Warfare and Migration:
Gender Imbalance Among Pre-Historic Pueblos." The event is free
and open to the public.

THE CHILLING TALES OF EDGAR ALLAN POE - Wed. Oct.18 at 8 p.m. at
Marshall Center School. In an era gone by, one-room schools often
hosted the activities of local literary societies. Help resurrect the

Richardson, performs some works by Edgar Allan Poe and other
