HIBBS MEMORIAL DEDICATION; 2 P.M. TODAY: A memorial to honor U.S. Army
2nd Lt. Robert J. Hibbs, UNI alumnus, Cedar Falls native and Medal of
Honor recipient, will be dedicated at 2 p.m. today outside the West Gym.
Speakers include Iowa Gov. Thomas Vilsack, UNI President Robert Koob and
dignitaries from the U.S. Army. The Hibbs family also will attend.
All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend.

GOVERNOR VILSACK VISITS: Governor Thomas Vilsack will be visiting the
UNI campus on Tues., Sept. 19. At 12:30 he will be in the Hemisphere
Lounge of Maucker Union for a conversation with UNI students. The
Governor will be speaking at the dedication of the Hibbs Memorial
at 2 p.m. and will be available to greet faculty, staff, and students
immediately following the event.

PARKING LOT CLOSED: The Minnesota St. and West Gym A lots will be
closed all day today to accommodate the Hibbs Memorial dedication.
The GBPAC visitor lot is open for A permit parking.

AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK: UNI is helping to advocate American
Education Week, Nov. 13-17, by inviting UNI students, faculty
and staff to give presentations to public and private schools in the
local area. We want to encourage all UNI members to participate
during American Education Week as it allows them to share their
expertise with local students and educators. A sign-up sheet to be
returned to the Office of Public Relations is included in the link below.

RESUME DESIGN WORKSHOP: Dr. Bill Williamson of UNI's English
Department will offer up a free Resume Design Workshop to all
who want to attend, Tues., Sept. 19 from 7-9p.m. in Baker 161.
The workshop will focus on key topics related to Resume Design
and to the Job Search in general,including locating jobs,
organizing the job search, reading job postings,and customizing
your resume.

OPEN-DOOR RESUME CONSULTING: Dr. Bill Williamson will offer free
resume consultation to anyone who is interested Thurs., Sept. 21
9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Baker 210. Come in and receive feedback on
your resume. See how people at job fairs and in personnel offices
read these documents. Dr. Williamson ran a resume design consultancy
from 1989-98, serving a variety of education and industry clients.

SPEAKER PARKER PALMER: Dr. Palmeris recovering from pneumonia; so
the two sessions for Thurs. Sept. 20 have been cancelled: In the
Union Expansion at 9 a.m. and Waterloo Arts Center at 2 p.m.
All other sessions will be held. Parker Palmer will attempt to attend
the 2 and/or 3 p.m. faculty sessions in the Union Expansion. This
is an upfront opportunity for faculty members to discuss Dr. Palmer's
writing and/or interact directly with him. If you wish to attend,

to be discussed. As a reminder, the public lecture and reception will
be held from 4:30-6:00 p.m. in the Great Hall, GBPAC.

PANTHER VOLLEYBALL: UNI Volleyball, after wins this weekend over
rivals Indiana State and Illinois State, looks to win their 27th
consecutive home match TONIGHT vs. Western Illinois. The match
begins at 7 p.m. in the West Gym. Advance tickets are available

GUEST SPEAKER: The Office of the Provost and Sigma Xi Scientific
Research Society, will host a presentation, "The Global Warming
Debate: Separating the Scientific Signal From the Political Noise,"
Wed., Sept. 20. at 7:30 p.m. in the GBPAC, with guest speaker
Stephen H. Schneider, professor in Stanford University’s Department
of Biological Sciences.

LECTURE: Public lecture by noted historian of Victorian England
Walter Arnstein, Emeritus Professor of History, University of Illinois,
Urbana-Champaign, will present the 27th Annual Carl L. Becker Memorial
Lecture at 7 p.m. on Sept. 20 in Seerley 115. The title of Professor
Arnstein's lecture is "Queen Victoria and Her Biographers." The lecture is
sponsored by the Dept. of History, Phi Alpha Theta and the UNI History Club.

OPPENHEIM EXHIBIT OPENING: Don't miss the opening reception for the
the exhibit "Dennis Oppenheim: Twenty Years in the Public Eye" in the
Kamerick Art Building Thursday, Sept. 21, at 4 p.m. The dedication of
"Stage Set for a Film #1" will be at 2 p.m. in the Great Hall of the GBPAC.
