UNI CAMPUS PHONE BOOK: The Human Resource Services office is updating
information for the 2000-01 UNI campus phone book. We are asking for
updated personal information only. Departmental changes will only be
accepted from the Department Secretary/Office Coordinator. Refer any
office phone or address changes to these individuals. A departmental
listing will be sent to each of them for verification in approximately

UNI SATURDAY CELEBRATION: Don't forget the Fifth Annual UNI Saturday
Celebration, a picnic for all UNI faculty, staff and their families,
Saturday, Sept. 9, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The picnic will be held
on the south lawn near the president's home, hosted by Bob and Yvonne
Koob. Food, drinks and table service are provided. Please bring lawn
chairs or a blanket.

CONVOCATION THANKS AND REQUEST FOR FEEDBACK--The University Convocation
Committee wishes to thank all members of the University community
for your many acts of assistance and support for the Aug. 28 Convocation
in the UNI-Dome. More than 250 faculty members participated in academic
regalia, along with the platform party. The crowd was estimated at about
2,500. The Committee will be meeting for an evaluation session in
early September and requests your feedback and suggestions as a part
of that process. Send comments to Convocation@uni.edu no later than
Friday, Sept. 8.

PROMOTING UNI IN PELLA: Calling all UNI faculty, staff, & organizations!
We are gearing up for our fall Community Visitation Day on Tuesday,
Oct. 24 in Pella, Iowa. You have an opportunity to present an area,
activity or lesson to Pella's elementary, middle or high schools.
If you are interested in programming in Pella or if you have any

SISTER HELEN PREJEAN: A videotape of Sister Helen Prejean's address
to the university given in November, 1999 is available from audiovisual
services for $5 for university personnel and $7.50 for the general public.

CONVOCATION VIDEOTAPES--Monday's University Convocation in the UNI-Dome
was videotaped by ITS-EdTech. There will not be a transcript of
Dr. Ben Carson's address available. The Committee did receive permission
to use the videotape for educational classroom use; for training purposes
within the University, such as residence hall programming or staff training;
for closed circuit educational use within the institution; and for UNI
faculty who are teaching classes originating from Cedar Falls to specific
classroom sites, via the Iowa Communications Network. Copies are available
via departmental requisition at $5 per copy, or at $7.50 for those who
wish to pay personally. To order a copy of the videotape contact

SPORT CLUB ADVISOR NEEDED: UNI Sport Clubs, recognized and sponsored
by WRS, are required to have a faculty/staff advisor for their respective
club. Club advisors should have a basic knowledge of the sport or activity.
Advisor responsibilities include facilitate and provide advice for club
decision making, insure university policies are understood and followed,
model good leadership, and oversee financial transactions. If you would
be interested in being involved with students in this capacity please
contact Tim Klatt, Sport Club Director, at 3-7120 or timothy.klatt@uni.edu.

wisely and how to successfully navigate your way around the WWW. Class

ROD LIBRARY ELECTRONIC RESOURCES: Visit a wide array of databases from
different disciplines. Learn the basics of database searching. Class

UNI UNCOVER GATEWAY: This faculty-only workshop will put the power of
document delivery behind your research. Class meets on Tuesday,

STUDY ABROAD INFORMATION SESSIONS: We will discuss the benefits of
studying abroad, how to get started, UNI and non-UNI programs, and how
to get credit for your experience. Maucker Union Hemisphere Lounge;

MILLENNIUM LECTURE SERIES: "Rebuilding Civic Society in the New Millennium".
Wednesday, Sept. 6, 7 p.m. in Maucker Union Expansion. Prisons are bulging,
gated communities commonplace and courts are choked with lawsuits. Professor
Tom Rice, Head of the UNI Political Science Department, examines what it
means to be civic and what it will take for individuals and communities to
renew civic society in the United States. The lecture will be followed by a
reception.

ARCHEOLOGICAL SOCIETY MEETING: The September Meeting of the Black Hawk
Regional Archeological Society will be held in the basement meeting room
of the Cedar Falls Public Library at 7 p.m. on Sept. 6. The speaker
will be Lynn Alex, she will speak on "Recent Archeological Finds in Iowa."
