UNIVERSITY CONVOCATION: The rebirth of a University tradition after an
absence of nearly three decades will take place Monday, Aug. 28, when
the All University Convocation is held at 3:15 p.m. in the UNI-Dome.
Dr. Ben Carson, head of pediatric neurosurgery for The Johns Hopkins
Medical Institutions, will be the keynote speaker, bringing his message
of the value and importance of education-- "THINK BIG: A Philosophy for
Success in Life."

FACULTY MARCHING IN UNIVERSITY CONVOCATION PROCESSIONAL: Faculty who
ordered robes and academic regalia through the Registrar's office have
been sent a notice on where to pick-up and return their academic attire
for the Monday, Aug. 28, All University Convocation. They, along with
current and emeritus faculty who have their own regalia and are planning
to march in the processional, should report to the staging area behind
the platform curtains on the 50-yard line of the Dome field at 2:45
p.m., or as shortly thereafter as possible.

UNI THEATRE SEASON TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE: Season tickets are
on sale for the 2000-01 theatre season. This season of dramas
inspired by true stories, a rock musical, and operetta will be performed

UNI PANTHER PASS NOW AVAILABLE: For just $30 UNI students can now
purchase a $30 Panther Pass via the web. The new Panther Pass is good
for admission to UNI home sporting and theatre events in 2000-01. You

UNIVERSITY AUCTION: UNI has scheduled an auction for Wednesday, Aug. 23,
10 a.m., at 2412 W. 27th Street, Cedar Falls. A large variety of
miscellaneous furniture and equipment will be sold including desks,
chairs, computer equipment, collator, paper cutting machine, weight
machine, cabinets, etc. All items are sold "as is" and must be removed
the day of the sale. All items must be paid for in cash (good check)
at the site before removal. A photo id will be required to obtain a
bidding number.

PREVIEW OF DR. BEN CARSON, AUGUTST 28 CONVOCATION SPEAKER:
An introduction by University President Bob Koob of the all-university
convocation keynote speaker Dr. Ben Carson will be played on public
access television in both Cedar Falls and Waterloo during the first week
of classes. In Waterloo: 6 p.m, Wednesday, Aug. 23 and 7 p.m., Thursday,
Aug. 24. In Cedar Falls: 7:30, 9:30 and 11:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 23;
4:30, 6:30, 8:30, 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 24.

STUDY ABROAD CENTER WELCOME BACK BBQ: Returning study abroad students,
new exchange students from partner institutions around the world, staff
and faculty are invited to attend, Thursday, Aug. 24, 5-7 p.m. in Seerley
Park. Introducing UNI-PAW (UNI Panthers Around the World), a new student
organization for study abroad students. Food will be provided, but feel
free to bring along a dish to share. In case of rain, the BBQ will be
