STUDENT EMPLOYMENT CHANGES: There have been some changes to student
employment policies. The changes are intended to allow more discretion
to departments by removing restrictions caused by the old matrix.

PHONE BOOKS: The 2000/2001 UNI phone books are expected to arrive as
planned in October. The Office of Public Relations has a quantity of
1999/2000 phone books on hand. If you would like a copy of the current
book to fill the void until the new edition comes out, please call
3-2761 or stop by 127 Gilchrist Hall.
LIBRARY TTY REFERENCE SERVICE: UNI's Rod Library now offers individuals
the option of obtaining informational and reference assistance
through TTY/TDD technology (telecommunications devices for people
with hearing or other disabilities). Individuals wishing to contact
Rod Library by TTY may call 319/273-7299.
FOR SALE-DEPARTMENTAL USE ONLY: The College of Business Administration
has two Sharp LCD projectors for sale. They are both XGE1100's and are
3 years old. The asking price is $1,000 or best offer (right is reserved
to reject offers). They also have brackets and ceiling mounts for the
projectors available for $100 each. The projectors may be seen, through
Aug. 18 during regular business hours, by calling 3-3062 (Barb Mardis)
or 3-2225 (Bret Jacobsen).
Anyone interested in purchasing the projectors should send a letter of
intent to buy and the price by noon, August 21 to Judy Kuhlmann,
Controller's Office, 0008 or judy.kuhlmann@uni.edu. We will notify the
department(s) with the highest offer the week of August 20th.
WRC MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS: Wellness and Recreation Services will begin
accepting registrations for Facility User Privileges on August 1.
Annual facility usage runs from September 1, 2000 to August 31, 2001
at an indiviadual cost of $120 for UNI Faculty/Staff and/or their
spouses. To renew or sign up for new Facility User Privileges, stop
by the WRS office(WRC 101) or log-on to Access UNI and retreive a
registration form on-line at http://access.uni.edu/staff/home.htm.

general information regarding facility usage policies, please reference

MERIT ELECTION: UNI Merit Personnel held an election on May 3 and
elected seven individuals to serve on the Merit Personnel Advisory
Committee (MPAC) for 2000-2001. This committee represents the staff
not covered by the Professional & Scientific Council (P&S) and
Supervisory/Confidential Merit Personnel (SCMP). Please visit this

Please return your reserve requests as early as possible to guarantee
materials will be ready for checkout the first day of classes. If you
submit your course reserve lists after the semester starts it can take
up to two weeks to process the items because of the large volume of

GILCHRIST DRIVE CLOSING: Beginning Monday Aug. 7 a portion of Gilchrist
Drive will be indefinately closed to prevent through vehicular traffic.
The portion to be closed is located between the Gilchrist Hall loading
dock and the Gilchrist "G" gated parking lot exit. Access to the Gilchrist
loading dock shall be made from the west via Campus Street. Closing this
portion of Gilchrist Drive facilitates the University's desire to improve
and maintain a pedestrian friendly campus, reduce vehicular traffic in the
central campus area and improve pedestrian safety. Thanks for your cooperation.

URGENTLY NEEDED: Families or individuals to host international students
beginning fall 2000. The International Friendship Program is a volunteer
program that seeks to provide new students with local support.
GBPAC TICKETS: Single tickets are now on sale for the 2000-2001 season
at the GBPAC. Season subscription of any six or more events offer a 10%
discount. There is a 50% discount on most events for UNI students and
anyone 18 and under. For ticket information or to receive a season

NATIONAL CATTLE CONGRESS: UNI is reviving its presence at the National
Cattle Congress Sept. 14-17. We want to promote the university to the
state of Iowa, thus increasing the awareness of our services. The
University will have a booth in Estel Hall that will feature a large
university display with a variety of literature and promotional items.
We are looking for interested faculty and staff to work the booth on the
following shifts:
- Thurs., Sept. 14 to Sat., Sept. 16: 10 a.m.-1 p.m., 1-4 p.m., 4-7 p.m.
and 7-9 p.m.
- Sun., Sept. 17: 10 a.m.-1 p.m., 1-4 p.m., and 4-6 p.m.

MUSIC CLEARANCE: KUNI/KHKE is clearing some shelves in the music library.
Hundreds of classical LPs are available free for the taking and CDs
(mostly alternative rock) are available for a $2 donation. Come to the

IWRC LASER TOUCH: The Iowa Waste Reduction Center and its innovative
Laser Touch painting system has been feature recently in two national
