NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK: National Library Week is April 9th-15th! In
celebration, Rod Library invites patrons to stop at any of these
desks to get a free pen: Circulation, MultiService Center, Reference
or Art & Music. While at the library, please check out the current
exhibit on libraries in the main lobby.
STUDENT EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR WINNERS: Thanks all those who helped make
National Student Employment Week a success. All across campus departments
celebrated by displaying signs, giving thank you gifts, bringing treats
to the office and other creative ideas to thank their students. More than
100 students were nominated for UNI Student Employee of the Year. The
committee selected ten students to receive the award this year. Award
winners are listed at:
UNIVERSITY AUCTION: UNI has scheduled an auction for noon Thursday,
April 20, at 2412 W. 27th St., Cedar Falls. 27th St. is closed, so
enter from Hudson Road, west on 31st Street, past the UNI power plant,
turn onto gravel road to the warehouse. A large variety of miscellaneous
furniture and equipment will be sold including desks, chairs, computer
equipment, files, a Dayton 230/140 AMP AC/DC stick welder, A/V equipment,
etc. All items are sold "as is" and must be removed the day of the sale.
All items must be paid for in cash (or good check) at the site before
removal. A photo ID will be required to obtain a bidding number.
AIRFARES REDUCED: The airlines have announced lower airfares to many
domestic destinations for this spring. The following rules will apply:
· Travel between April 25 and September 6, 2000.
· Special childrens rates, ages 2-17
· A 14 day advance purchase is required.
· Lowest days of travel to most destinations are Monday-Thursday.
· All tickets are non-refundable and change fees will apply.
· Saturday Night stay is required.
· All fares are subject to change and availability until tickets are

STRATEGIC PLAN OPEN FORUM: The Faculty Senate, the P&S Council, the
Supervisory, Confidential Merit personnel and Merit staff will hold
an open forum at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18 in 207 Gilchrist on
the Strategic Plan. Student Government has also been asked to
participate and all members of the university community are welcome

DEGREE AUDIT INSERVICE: A degree audit inservice for advisors will be
held at 3 p.m. Tuesday April 18, and Wednesday, April 19 in the
Ambassador Room of Maucker Union. If you have ever had questions about
the use of the degree audit in the advising process, this program will
be of interest to you. Academic Advising Services and the Admissions

for their outstanding contributions to the University by nominating
them for the 2000 Regents Staff Excellence Awards. Employees are

Technologies (DLTT) will be held Saturday, April 15 in the CBB. This
workshop will allow faculty and staff currently using distance learning
tools and technologies to find out "who is doing what" in the area of
distance education at UNI, and gain additional technical expertise in
using state-of-the-art technologies, identify DL tools available and
share ideas and experiences in distance learning. For more information,

GRADUATE FACULTY ANNUAL MEETING: All faculty and graduate students are
invited to Annual Meeting of the Graduate Faculty, Thursday, April 13,
at 3:30 p.m. in the UNI Gallery of Art. Refreshments are at 3:30 p.m.,
awards (Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation , Outstanding Master's Thesis,
Outstanding Master's Paper, Outstanding Graduate Teaching) will be
announced at 3:45 p.m. At 4 p.m. there will be a forum on "Graduate
Education at a Comprehensive University: Asset or Debit, Boon or Bane?"

MIND-READER PERFORMANCE: Banachek, one of the greatest mind-readers
in the world will perform at UNI on Thursday, April 13, 7:30 p.m. in
244 SEC. Banachek performs the most amazing mind-bending mental feats
imaginable. UNI students, faculty, staff and guests are welcome.

SENIOR RECITAL: Ben Fox, bassoon, and Jeffrey Ensign, tuba will present
their senior recital in the Russell Hall Auditorium at 6 p.m., Thursday,
April 13. No admission charge. Faculty members Robin Guy and Kathy
Edsill-Charles will be the pianists.
JAZZ BAND ONE CONCERT: A UNI Jazz Band I Concert, with Robert Washut,
conductor, will be presented in the GBPAC Great Hall at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, April 13. No admission charge. Through the generosity of
Richard and Dorothy Francis, Jazz Band I commissioned three works
especially for the first half of the concert, Rob Hudson's arrangement
of "At Dusk" by Dave Douglas, "Ice Nine" by Chris Merz and UNI graduate
Mark Urness' arrangement of "Ready and Able" by Jimmy Smith.
PANTHER SOFTBALL: Don't miss UNI softball this Thursday afternoon when
they host Big Ten rival Minnesota at 3 p.m. The game will be played at
the UNI Diamond on campus.
UNI MEN'S TENNIS: Northern Iowa men's tennis hosts two conference
rivals this weekend. On Friday, UNI faces Southern Illinois at 3 p.m.
and Sunday morning, the Panthers take on Evansville at 9 a.m.
JEBE ORGAN HALL DEDICATION CONCERT: An international concert artist
will perform in an Organ Dedication Concert in the GBPAC Jebe Hall
at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 14. Cost is $15, for tickets call 3-2024.
GBPAC GALA OPENING: April 15 & 16 (Saturday & Sunday) the GBPAC Gala
Opening will be presented with the UNI School of Music and the Waterloo/
Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra in the GBPAC Great Hall at 7:30 p.m. on
the 15th (SOLD OUT) & 2 p.m. on the 16th (TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE).

the UNI School of Music, and the second half will be the Waterloo/Cedar
Falls Symphony. Performing on the grand finale with the Symphony will
be the UNI Concert Chorale, UNI Singers and UNI Varsity Men's Glee Club.
WHOLISTIC HEALTH FAIR: A wholistic Health Fair will be held in the WRC
April 15 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The Fair is intended to provide an
opportunity for UNI students, faculty, and staff, and the community to
become more aware of the variety of alternative and complementary choices
for healthy, wholistic living and personal growth in the area. There will
be booths, demonstrations, experiential opportunities, workshops and speakers
throughout the day. Admission to the Fair is $1.
DOR RECOGNITION CEREMONY: "Among the Stars" annual recognition ceremonies
and reception for residence system leaders and advisors. 2 p.m., Sunday,
April 16, Maucker Union Expansion.
FIRST SAHAI LECTURE APRIL 17: Dr. Jean Gerrath, associate professor
of biology and Sahai Distinguished Professor, will speak on "Vines and
Their Tendrils: The Growth of Plastic Plants," at 3 p.m. Monday,
April 17, in the CEEE auditorium. Established in honor of Dr. Prem Sahai
by his family, the professorship is awarded annually, on a rotating basis,
to a faculty member in biology, chemistry or mathematics who exemplifies
excellence in his or her discipline. The public is invited to attend the
lecture and the reception following in the CEEE rotunda.
