MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR MICHAEL SHELTON: A memorial service will be held
for Michael Shelton from 4-6 p.m. Friday, March 31, in SEC 244/245.
Father John from St. Stephens will be speaking, and other campus
ministries and the UNI Counseling Center may have representatives
available for people to talk to as well. Mr. and Mrs. Shelton are
planning to attend. For more information, contact Tony Lake at 3-2080.

FORUMS ON CURRICULUM REFORM: The Faculty Senate will hold open forums
on the curriculum reform proposal Wednesday, March 29 at 3:30 p.m. in
Sabin 201 and Tuesday, April 4 in Gilchrist 209. Please come and give
your input. The proposal is posted on the senate website,

The senate will vote on the proposal April 24.

SUMMER EMPLOYMENT FOR EMPLOYEES TEENS: The Department of Residence
employs students 14 and older in dining services. Students learn team
work, service skills and time management in a fun, safe, flexible work

STUDY ABR0AD DEADLINES: The Study Abroad Scholarship application deadline
for the Summer and Fall 2000 and Academic Year 2000/2001 study abroad
programs is Thursday, March 30. Students participating in programs
sponsored and administered by the Office of International Programs are

P&S EXCELLENCE AWARD NOMINATIONS: For the ninth consecutive year the
Professional & Scientific employees at UNI have an opportunity to
recognize up to three P&S employees for their outstanding contributions
to the University by nominating them for the 2000 Regents Staff
Excellence Awards. Employees are encouraged to fill out the nomination
form and submit it prior to April 28 to the Chair of the Employee

ADVISOR INSERVICE: An Advisor Inservice will be Thursday, March 30,
3:30 p.m. in CBB 126. General Education Advising Made Easy-Integrating
Liberal Arts. A review of the role of General Education in advising.
Requirements will be reviewed, including specific course information,
advisories, and considerations for helping students make appropriate
choices. Open to faculty advisors and staff or students assisting with
registration and advising.

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY SHOWCASE: Winners of the state-wide Showcase
on Educational Technology project will be displayed from 9 a.m.- 3p.m.
Friday, March 31, in the SEC lobby. Teachers and students of 18 winning
projects will give a 20-minute presentations along with hosting table
displays for their projects. One of the sponsors is the Iowa Educational
Technology and Training Institute (IETTI) from UNI. Contact Doreen Hayek

WOMEN'S STUDIES POTLUCK PRIOR TO UNCLE IRENE: Please bring a friend
and join the Women's Studies program in celebrating Women's History
Month with a Night of Women-Powered Blues and Community starting with
a Finger-Food Potluck Friday, March 31, 6:30 p.m. in Baker 161. Then
on to "Uncle Irene" a women-powered blues band (see below).

UNCLE IRENE WRAPS UP WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH: Uncle Irene, women-powered
blues, will be performing original blues and classic covers in a free
concert Friday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Maucker Union Hemisphere
Lounge. Uncle Irene, includes UNI's own Rebecca Burkhardt on guitar
and piano. The group will also give "A Brief History of Women in Blues,"
an informal performance/lecture Thursday at 12:30 in 111 Russell.

ARENA FOOTBALL IN THE UNI-DOME: The Iowa Barnstormers face the Buffalo
Destroyers this Friday night in an Arena Football game in the UNI-Dome.
Kick-off is at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the UNI-Dome
ticket office or by calling 319-363-1888. See the first-ever Arena
Football game in Northeast Iowa.

SAE OPEN HOUSE: The men of SAE would like to invite the University
community to an open house of their new home, Saturday, April 1, from
noon to 2 P.M. The house is located at 1115 West 23rd Street. All
faculty, staff, and students are welcome.

DANCE AROUND THE WORLD: The UNI International Dance Theatre will present
its annual Spring Dance Concert, "Dance Around The World," in the Oster-
Regent Theatre 8 p.m. Saturday, April 1, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2.
The concert will feature dances from Bosnia, Mexico, France, Russia,
Israel, Italy, Poland and the United States. Tickets are $6 general
admission and $4 for children, students and seniors, and are available
at the door or by calling 3-6195.

UNI SOFTBALL THIS WEEKEND: Panther Softball hosts their first home
games of the 2000 season this weekend. UNI faces Southern Illinois
Saturday and Evansville on Sunday at the on-campus UNI Diamond. Both
doubleheaders start at noon.

MILLENNIUM LECTURE SERIES: "Jive and Kickin': The State of Poetry in
the Year 2000" will be presented in the next Millennium Lecture Series
Monday, April 3 in the Commons Slife Ballroomat 7 p.m. Vince Gotera,
poet and professor in English Language and Literature, says poetry is
not dead, it is scintillatingly alive-perhaps in ways the academic
mainstream has not traditionally valued. A poetry reading by various
members of the UNI community will follow.

ANXIETY DISORDER SCREENING DAY: The UNI Counseling Center is sponsoring
Anxiety Disorder Screening Day April 6, with sessions at 10 a.m.,
1 and 3 p.m. Please choose ONLY 1 session to attend. The sessions will
last approximately 1 hour. Participants must arrive on time to take
part in the screening. The Counseling Center is located at 213 Student
Services Center. The screening is free of charge. Please direct
questions regarding the screening to 3-2676.

WALLER TO DELIVER RENINGER LECTURE: Robert James Waller, author Of
"The Bridges of Madison County" and numerous books of essays and other
novels, will deliver the Reninger Lecture Thursday, April 6 in Russell
Hall Auditorium at 8 p.m. The topic: "The Bridges of Madison County: The
Perquisites and Costs of Fame." The public is invited at no charge.
Waller also will deliver the Keynote Address at UNI's "Celebrating
Critical Writing" Conference Friday, April 7. Waller's talk, "Getting
the Words Rightly Set: Technique, Magic, Execution," is 3 p.m. in
SEC 244. The public is invited at no charge.

GRACE ANN HOVET STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARDS: Students, faculty and staff
are invited to attend a Sun., April 9 reception at 2 p.m., with program
at 2:30 p.m. Student Organization Awards will be presented and the winners
will be announced for the Sue Follon Women and Leadership Essay, and
Dr. Sue Follon Scholarship for Women in Leadership. Keynote speaker is
James Malinchak, a contributor to "Chicken Soup for the College Soul."
