PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL TRAINING: Human Resources will be conducting
performance appraisal training programs in March and April. All UNI
staff responsible for completing performance appraisals are invited
to attend. The following sessions currently have space available:
March 29 or 31, April 3 or 5 1:30-5 p.m.
April 4, 7, 10 or 13 8:30 a.m.-noon

THANK YOUR STUDENTS: Do something extra special for your students during
National Student Employment Week. You may also nominate any outstanding
student for "UNI Student Employee of the Year". All nominees will receive
a certificate and one will be honored with a plaque. Please submit your
nominations to Brian Will (mail code 0024) by April 3. There will also be
free popcorn in the Financial Aid/Student Employment Office (116 Gilchrist)

WALLACE NAMED DEAN OF CSBS: Julia (Jill) Wallace has been named dean of
the UNI College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. She has been interim
Dean for two years, filling the vacancy left by Aaron Podolefsky, who left
the position to become UNI Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost.

GBPAC VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center
wants you to be its newest STAR. Volunteer Ambassadors are needed during
the center's gala opening festival, April 6-27. The festival features
over 15 performances and will be highlighted by Gala celebrations on
April 15-16. If you love the arts, like working with people, and can
commit to four evenings as an usher, tour guide or coat checker - we'd
love to hear from you! To become one of the Gallagher-Bluedorn's
newest Stars as a volunteer ambassador, call Steve Carignan, at 3-3665.
ROAD CLOSING: West 27th Street, from just west of Nebraska Street to
Union Road, will close for reconstruction beginning Wednesday March 8.
Weather permitting, the construction will be completed in approximately
3 to 4 months. This project is administered by the City of Cedar Falls.
CUSTOMER SERVICE WORKSHOP: The Management and Professional Development
Center will present "Developing a Customer Driven Organization" on
March 23 and March 29 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in rooms 1-3 of the

THE STORY BEHIND HURRICANE CARTER: Tuesday, March 21, at 7 p.m. in
the Maucker Union Expansion, John Artist and Lesra Martin will visit
the UNI community to share their experiences with Rubin "Hurricane"
Carter. John Artist was arrested along side Rubin Carter. Lesra
Martin was instrumental in freeing Rubin Carter from incarceration.
MASKS FROM AROUND THE WORLD: Masks can hide, protect, disguise,
liberate, or transform the wearer. Made for a wide variety of reasons,
they are simple but powerful creations of almost every world culture.
Join Museum Director Sue Grosboll to learn about the many ceremonies,
stories, and unusual uses of masks from around the globe. Tuesday,
March 21, 7-9 p.m. at the University Museum.
MAKE-A-MASK WORKSHOP: UNI Professor Marianna Delafield will lead
participants through the steps of mask making - from form to finished
mask - at the University Museum. This 3-part workshop will be held
March 22, 29 and April 5 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Bring scissors and wear
old clothes! Please register by calling the Museum at 3-2188; space
is limited. $20 fee.
ARTISTS SERIES: The UNI Artists Series welcomes the guitar rock duo
"Sergio and Odair Assad" Thursday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Russell
Hall. Tickets are $18 for the general public and $9 for UNI students
and youth under 18. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling
273-SHOW. Advance tickets are available at the Strayer-Wood Box Office.
NATIONAL EDUCATOR EXPO: The National Educator Expo will be Saturday,
March 25, in Maucker Union. Educators may meet with 110 school
districts from Iowa and across the U.S. to interview for jobs.
Candidates register at 8 a.m., March 25, in Sabin Hall for a $25 fee.

WRS AQUA OLYMPICS: Win A T-shirt! Join the fun at the WRS Aqua Olympics
Saturday, April 1 at 7 p.m. Four person co-ed teams will compete in
Innertube Polo, Water Volleyball, and the Waterslide Speed Challenge.
Pre-register at WRC 101, March 27-31 between 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. or
register at time of event.
