NEW DRAFT STRATEGIC PLAN: Based on your input, the Values, Vision,
Mission and Goals statements have been revised in the UNI Draft
Strategic Plan, and a new, much more detailed document identifying
objectives, actions and performance indicators for each goal has been
posted on the web. Please take the time to provide the same
thoughtful analysis and comment on this document that you did on the
previous one. You may send your comments to the committee via
e-mail or post them to the Draft Strategic Plan Message Board.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: The CBA Management and Professional Development
Center will conduct "Building a Culture for Motivating People and
Maximizing Performance," the first of the MPDC'S Management Training
Consortium workshop series for 2000. The workshop will be held in
CBB 1-3 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Jan. 13 and again on Jan. 19. For

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANCE: Do you need assistance in
choosing and using instructional technology in your courses? If you
are using or want to know more about instructional technologies such
as WebCT, PowerPoint, creating web pages or emerging technologies
such as streaming media or desktop conferencing please contact TyAnn
Morehead, Instructional Design and Development Specialist. TyAnn will
be on campus during most of winter break to assist faculty in
preparing for spring semester.

DISTANCE LEARNING TOOLS AND TECHNOLOGIES WORKSHOP: A group of UNI
faculty and staff, in cooperation with Continuing Education, Contract
Training, is planning a technical workshop on campus for April 15, 2000
on distance learning tools. We request that any faculty members
currently working on distance learning projects contact
us with information about your project and technical interests. These
projects could involve any number of distance learning tools and
technologies. This workshop and project is funded by Deere, Inc.

CONVOCATION SPEAKERS: The committee planning a Fall 2000 Convocation
is seeking nominations for speakers who are: controversial or topical;
engage a broad audience rather than being single-discipline specific;
challenge or inspire on an educational level; and, preferably, have
some kind of book or media artifact that might be used to complement
his or her appearance. Brief, explanatory statements of nomination are

ANCIENT POMPEII PROGRAM: The Black Hawk Regional Chapter of the Iowa
Archeology Society presents "Ancient Pompeii Today" at 7 p.m. Wednesday,
Jan. 5 in the front Dining Room of Mallard Point Retirement Residence,
2503 Orchard Drive, Cedar Falls. Werner Sell will provide slides and
commentary about the ruins of Pompeii as they appear today. For more

MLK PROGRAM: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: The Life, The Legacy will
be presented Monday, Jan. 17, 6 p.m.,in the Maucker Union Expansion.
Join the UNI Community as time is taken to remember the life and
legacy of one of the world's greatest leaders of social change.
Through song, poetry, and reflection, the memory of Dr. King will
come alive.

MLK OBSERVANCE AND VOLUNTEER FAIR: The Center for Multicultural
Education and the Placement and Career Services office present the
annual Volunteer Fair and Martin Luther King, Jr. program. The fair
is 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Jan. 19. Mary Sawyer, author of "Black Ecumenism:
Implementing the Demands of Justice" and professor at Iowa State
University will keynote the event with a lecture on "Living Lives of
Service: Lessons from Martin Luther King, Jr." All faculty and
staff are encouraged to attend and recommend the event to their students.

great chamber orchestras, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, on Thursday,
