Y2K: Here are some important Y2K reminders: 

1. All computer systems will be shut down at 5 p.m. on Dec. 30. They will 
be restarted by 8 a.m. on Jan. 3. Please do not plan to use networked 
systems until Jan. 3. 

2. Before leaving for semester break, shut down and unplug your computer. 

3. For an update on Y2K at UNI, call 3-4Y2K. 

4. Tune in to local radio and TV stations for important announcements, if 
they become necessary. 

Finally, the Y2K management team is asking everyone to avoid campus on New 
Year’s weekend so those working to monitor systems will be unhindered.

NEW DRAFT STRATEGIC PLAN: Based on your input, the Values, Vision, 
Mission and Goals statements have been revised in the UNI Draft 
Strategic Plan, and a new, much  more detailed document identifying 
objectives, actions and performance indicators for each goal has been
posted on the web. Please take the time to provide the same 
thoughtful analysis and comment on this document that you  did on the
previous one. You may send your comments to the committee via 
e-mail  or post them to the Draft Strategic Plan Message Board.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT DEADLINE: Enrollment forms for 
participation in the 2000 Flexible Spending Accounts are due by 5 p.m
Wednesday, Dec. 22. Enrollment is required each year so if you are 
participating in a FSA this year, enrollment does not carry forward 
to next year. If you have any questions please call Jan Flick at

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANCE: Do you need assistance in 
choosing and using instructional technology in your courses? If you 
are using or want to know more about instructional technologies such 
as WebCT, PowerPoint, creating web pages or emerging technologies 
such as streaming media or desktop conferencing please contact TyAnn 
Morehead, Instructional Design and Development Specialist. TyAnn will
be on campus during most of winter break to assist faculty in 
preparing for spring semester.

SPRING 2000 COURSE RESERVE REQUESTS:  To have Spring 2000 Course 
Reserve Requests processed and ready for students to check out on the
first day of the spring 2000 semester, the MultiService Center in 
Rod Library  needs to receive your reserve requests by Dec. 23. For 
course reserve lists after December 23, we can not guarantee that the
reserve items will be processed and available for check out on the 
first day of classes.  Lists submitted during the first few weeks of 
the semester  can take up to two weeks to process.

DISTANCE LEARNING TOOLS AND TECHNOLOGIES WORKSHOP: A group of UNI 
faculty and staff, in cooperation with Continuing Education, Contract 
Training, is planning a technical workshop on campus for April 15, 2000
on distance learning tools. We request that any faculty members 
currently working on distance learning projects contact
us with information about your project and technical interests. These
projects could involve any number of distance learning tools and
technologies. This workshop and project is funded by Deere, Inc.

TAILORED LIBRARY TRAINING OFFERED: Will your spring Semester classes 
be using the Internet or the Library?  You may want to consider 
reserving a library instruction session tailored to your specific 
course objectives and assignments.  The Rod Library faculty can
offer your class instruction ranging from a basic introduction to 
advanced workshops on information retrieval.  Interested?  Call Cindy 
Kruckeberg or Chris Neuhaus at 273-2838.  Rod Library instruction 
sessions are quite popular - so be sure to call early to reserve
instruction for your classes this coming semester.  Please be sure 
to call at least two weeks in advance.

CONVOCATION SPEAKERS: The committee planning a Fall 2000 Convocation 
is seeking nominations for speakers who are: controversial or topical; 
engage a broad audience rather than being single-discipline specific; 
challenge or inspire on an educational level; and, preferably, have 
some kind of book or media artifact that  might be used to complement 
his or her appearance. Brief, explanatory statements of nomination are

ARTISTS SERIES: The UNI Artists Series welcomes "A Scottish Christmas" 
Thursday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Russell Hall. An all-star cast 
performs a vibrant collection of Scottish carols, wassail tunes, and 
traditional holiday Highland music and dance.  Call 273-SHOW for 
ticket information.

PANTHER BASKETBALL ON TV:  The UNI men's and women's basketball games 
at Iowa State will be broadcast live from Ames on KCRG-TV (ABC) this 
Sunday, December 19.  The Northern Iowa women play the Cyclones at 
1 p.m. followed by the UNI men versus ISU at 6:05 p.m.
