The exhibit, located in cases in the Special Collections area on the Library's third level, focuses on the three eras during which military training was offered directly to UNI students: the turn of the century Normal School Battalion, the World War I Student Army Training Corps, and the contemporary Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) unit. The exhibit features documents and striking photographs from the University Archives as well as artifacts from the UNI Museum and the Department of Military Science. The exhibit will be in place for the next few weeks. -------------------------------------------------------------------- COCOA AND CAROLS: Bring your family to enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, sing traditional carols and reminisce about the traditions and activities in a one-room school. The University Museum will present two "Cocoa and Carols" programs at the Marshall Center One-Room School on Nov. 30, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and 7-8 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 12, from 2-3 p.m. The programs are free and everyone is invited! http://www.uni.edu/museum/ -------------------------------------------------------------------- TREELIGHTING CEREMONY: A tradition that began on the UNI campus in 1943 will be celebrated at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 30, with the holiday tree lighting ceremony. The tree lighting will take place north of Maucker Union, with Santa Claus arriving in a horse-drawn carriage. Around 7:15 p.m., festivities will continue inside Maucker Union with music, hot chocolate, hot apple cider, eggnog and cookies. Children will have an opportunity to visit with Santa Claus, and sleigh rides will be provided from 7:15 to 9 p.m. -------------------------------------------------------------------- MUSEUM GIFT SHOP HOLIDAY SALE: Need a gift for that special person? A program will be presented by three UNI history students on the preservation of the Minoan town of Akrotiri by the volcanic eruption on Thera, the culture of Pompeii before the 79 AD eruption of Vesuvius and an overview of Roman glassware and its relationship to Roman culture. Tip-off is at 7:05 p.m. Don't forget to get your tickets for UNI vs. Iowa, Tuesday, Dec. 7, 7:05 p.m., UNI-Dome. Panther Wrestling, ranked #15 in the nation, hosts the Northern Iowa Open this Saturday in the UNI-Dome.
