What's happening this week at UNI?

The Iowa 2010 Project, an initiative of the Governor's Strategic 
Planning Council, is an opportunity for Iowans to share their visions
of Iowa in the year 2010 via a special phone line, on the World Wide
Web, in an e-mail or at a series of town meetings. Visit the Iowa 
2010 web site for more information and for a list of town meetings 
scheduled across Iowa Oct. 11-Nov.15.
The UNI Child Care Committee, operating on a grant from student 
activity fees, is making available child care grants to student 
parents to assist with off-campus child care costs. The deadline for 
grant application is Nov. 1. For more information, contact the 
Financial Aid Office at 3-2700 or at 116 GIL. 
The P&S Council would like to announce their new web site. P&S 
employees are encouraged to view and then vote for a logo for the 
council.  Please browse through the site and provide feedback through 
the suggestions page.

The UNI Artists Series welcomes the wild and witty songs of Four 
Bitchin Babes on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Russell Hall.  In 
their Cedar Valley debut, these four raucous and rowdy moms leave no 
toe unstomped as they sing of fattening food, disastrous vacations 
and more!  For tickets call 273-SHOW.  
TIAA-CREF is sponsoring a teleconference at noon, Friday, Oct. 22.
The title of the teleconference is "Financial Strategies for a New 
Century - Tips From America's Experts."  The UNI location will be 
SEC 252.
Paul Hansen's retirement party, which was scheduled for Friday, Oct. 8
from 2 to 4 p.m., has been cancelled due to his having to have surgery.
A Health Screening and Information Day will be Friday, Oct. 8, from 
7-8:30 a.m. in the WRC Main Corridor. Blood Chemistry Profiles by 
Allen Hospital Lab will be available  Call the Wellness Lab at 
3-6119 to schedule an appointment.  Check out the details on the WRS

A Study Abroad Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, October 13, from 4-5 
p.m., in CBB 319. The Study Abroad Program and the College of 
Business Administration invites business students and other 
interested individuals to learn more about study abroad opportunities
available for UNI students around the world. Former program 
participants have also been invited, so bring your questions. For 
more information contact the Study Abroad Office at 3-7652.
The next monthly UNI AEOP meeting will be on Tuesday, Oct. 12 from 
noon to 1 p.m. in the State College Room, Maucker Union. Linda Miller
will share Employee Assistance Program information and demonstrate 
massage techniques.
"Journals, Memory & Positive Thinking", second of the Museums' Sunday 
Series programs will be held on Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. Join Professors 
Barbara Lounsberry, Department of English Language and Julia Wallace, 
Department of Psychology, to learn how to recall events and details 
through journal-keeping.
"Promoting Civic Engagement: Education, Service and Social Change" 
will be discussed by J. Herman Blake, professor and director 
of African American Studies at Iowa State University, from 4-5:15 p.m. 
Oct. 13 in the Maucker Union Expansion. His talk, sponsored by the 
UNI Leadership Studies Program, is open to all. Reservations requested 
only for entire classes attending; call 3-6898. 
Homecoming is here, and both the UNI football and volleyball teams 
will be home to celebrate. The volleyball team (16-0) hosts Bradley 
on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the West Gym in a battle for first place. 
The football team hosts Cal Poly on Saturday in the UNI-Dome at 
1:30 p.m. Tickets are still available for both events. Call 273-DOME 
for more information. Also, season tickets are now available for 
men's and women's basketball. Call 273-DOME for information. 
The Student Activities Office and the UNI sport club, the Panther 
Pacers, are hosting "Homecoming '99", a cross country-style 5K race 
Saturday, Oct, 9, at 8 a.m. You will be done in plenty of time to 
watch the Homecoming Parade.  Long sleeve T-shirts to all 
participants. Register at the Student Activities Office or forms are 
available at the WRC.  Race day registration until 7:45 at the 
Intramural fields just west of the UNI-Dome.  Lots of awards, good 
food and perfect weather!
