EVENTS ------ The Department of Modern Languages is sponsoring a live satellite videoconference on Foreign Language Teaching. The topic will be "The Coming of Age of the Profession." There will be several presentations discussing the emerging FL paradigm, the role of technology, teacher/learner roles and the national standards. There will also be live interaction with viewers and speakers from around the country. The event will be from 1-3 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6 in 130C SEC. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Did you know that UNI is the only Division I school in the country with undefeated both football (4-0) and volleyball (13-0) this year? Come watch the volleyball team, now ranked 24th nationally, this weekend as they host Southern Illinois (Fri., Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.) and Evansville (Sat., Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.) in the West Gym. The exhibit features landscape paintings by Margery Hibbard and still life drawings by William Francis Bisbee. It is open through Oct. 22. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Theatre UNI begins its 1999/2000 season with the American premiere of "Memoirs of the Warsaw Uprising" by Wieslaw Gorski, based on the work of Miron Bialoszewski. "Memoirs" is directed by Cynthia Goatley. Performances are Oct. 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 10 and 17 at 2 p.m. at the Strayer-Wood Theatre. Tickets are $8 for general public; $7 for UNI faculty/staff and senior citizens; $6 for UNI students and youth. Discussions with the playwright, director and cast will be held following the performances on Thursday, October 7, and Sunday, Oct. 10. For tickets, call the Theatre UNI box office at 3-6387. -------------------------------------------------------------------- A retirement open house for Betty Cool will be held from 2-4 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 30, in Gilchrist 207 & 209, as she retires from the Financial Aid Office. All are welcome to attend and wish Betty the best of luck on her retirement. -------------------------------------------------------------------- The P&S Council invites all P&S staff to the annual "Meet the Pres" meeting, 3:30-4:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 4, in 111 KAB. A large variety of miscellaneous furniture and equipment will be sold. All items will be sold "as is" and must be removed the day of the sale. All items must be paid for in cash (or good check) at the site before removal.
