What's happening this week at UNI?

The University of Northern Iowa Ag-Based Industrial Lubricants (ABIL)
Research Program introduced two new soybean-based industrial 
lubricants Sept. 24 during a news conference  at the ABIL research facility in
Waverly. On hand were Miley Gonzalez, U.S. Department of 
Agriculture under secretary for research, education and economics, 
and other key UNI, state and regional officials.

The Office of the Provost and Rod Library are presenting an 
Intellectual Property workshop Thursday, Sept. 30. The workshop will 
examine copyright law and the academic rights and responsibilities in

The P&S Council invites all P&S staff to the annual "Meet the Pres" 
meeting, 3:30-4:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 4, in 111 KAB. President Koob 
will address the role that staff played in UNI's recent high rankings
in U.S. News and World Report's College Guide. 
Tickets for the KUNI BLues Blowout are $15 in advance, $18 at the 
door at Electric Park Ballroom, Waterloo. It features The Kinsey 
Report and the Don Boyle Blues Band. Tickets available at KUNI, 3rd

Faculty Recital:  Bruce Tychinski, trombone; Robin Guy, piano. 
Mr. Tychinski will be performing works by Saint-Saens, Ewazen, Hartley,
Peaslee, and Monti. Russell Hall Aud., 8 p.m. No admission charge.  
There will be a UNI auction Friday, Oct. 1,at 1 p.m., at 2412 West 
27th Street (formerly Wayne Engineering).  A large variety of 
miscellaneous furniture and equipment will be sold. All items will be
sold "as is" and must be removed the day of the sale. All items must
be paid for in cash (or good check) at the site before removal.  A 
photo ID will be required to obtain a bidding number."

The World Food Prize is known to many as the "Nobel Prize" for food.
It is the foremost international award recognizing the achievements
of individuals who have advanced human development by improving the 
quality, quantity or availability of food in the world. The World 
Food Prize Award Ceremony will take place on Thursday, Oct. 14 in

The UNI Counseling Center is participating in the 1999 National 
Depression Screening Day, Thursday Oct. 7. Mental health professionals 
will offer the opportunity to learn about the signs and symptoms of 
depression and manic-depression and to participate in a free screening.

A retirement open house for Virgil Cordes will be held from 
2-3:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 30, in the Transportation Garage at the 
Physical Plant.  All are welcome to attend and wish Virgil the best 
of luck on his retirement. Virgil has served the University for 
17 1/2 years.

The ITS-Educational Technology (formerly Training Services) computer
workshop schedule for October is now available. As always, 
reservations are required for these workshops. Our advertisment was 
also in the September 24 issue of the Northern Iowan (usually the 
next to the last Friday each month), so the workshops are filling up
