Screening of "Weapons of the Spirit" and Panel Discussion

Tuesday, June 12, 2012 - 1:30 pm to 3:45 pm

During World War II, the small French village of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, which was inhabited mostly by Huguenots (devout Protestants whose own ancestors had been victims of persecution), became the site of a “conspiracy of goodness,” in which families took in Jews and hid them in their houses and on their farms. Written, produced and directed by Pierre Sauvage, who was born in the village while his parents were being sheltered, this documentary is a moving account of ordinary people who performed extraordinary feats. Following the film screening, a panel discussion featuring members of the Cedar Valley Interfaith Council will take place.

This film screening and panel discussion have been organized by the UNI Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education in conjunction with the traveling exhibit “BESA:  Albanian Muslims Who Saved Jews During World War II,” on exhibit through July 7 at the Grout Museum of History & Science, 503 South Street,  Waterloo.
