Lifelong University: The Thinking Eye: A Designer Looks at Visual Art

Friday, April 1, 2011 - 8:30 am to 10:00 am

Just as music is the poetry of sound, wrote American artist James A.M. Whistler, so is painting "the poetry of sight.” This is a series of slide talks on art, design, architecture and other kinds of visual art from the viewpoint of a person who sees art not only as self expression but as significant, intricate patterns, based on a “language of vision.” Drawing heavily on psychology, ethology and other topics, these fast-paced presentations look “behind the scenes” at the historic and current use of age-old form principles by artists, designers and architects—as well as musicians and poets.
