CME First Friday: Asian Pacific American Heritage month

The Center for Multicultural Education will celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage month. 

First Fridays brings together the UNI community to celebrate art, food and culture in an inclusive environment. Local diversity is celebrated at First Fridays and promotes the culture, talent and work of our community. Attendees are welcome to come and go as they please to engage in this unique cultural experience, meet other community members, and support local artists and organizations.

PTSD Awareness

The Student Veterans Association will host several speakers to promote awareness of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Speakers will be David Towle, Counseling Center; Jennifer Shuster, Cedar Rapids Vet Center; and a representative from Retrieving Freedom, an organization that trains service dogs to help people with PTSD.

Anxiety Screening

The UNI Counseling Center will hold anxiety screenings at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m and 3 p.m. Screenings are free and open to students, faculty and staff. No registration is required. Participants will complete a questionnaire and meet privately with a counselor who will briefly discuss the results.

Honors Olympics

The Honors Student Advisory Board will host the inaugural Honors Olympics. Teams of four will compete in brain games and athletic competitions to be crowned the Honors Olympics gold medalists. Participants can sign up as an individual and be assigned to a team. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. on the Honors Cottage lawn and the event goes until 8 p.m.

Honors Quiz Bowl

The Honors Student Advisory Board will have a quiz bowl. Teams of up to four members can participate in a sudden death quiz tournament for a grand prize. Participants can sign up as an individual and assigned to a team. The final round will include two student teams and a guest team of UNI faculty members. Check-in begins at 6:30 p.m. and the event runs from 7 to 9 p.m.

NISG Panther Bash

NISG will host Panther Bash where students can "de-stress" and meet the student government president and vice-president for the 2016-17 academic year. The event will have a carnival theme with a dunk tank, mini pig and many more fun activities.
