CME Book Club: Asian American Women’s Popular Literature: Feminizing Genres and Neoliberal Belonging by Pamela Thoma

Asian American Women’s Popular Literature: Feminizing Genres and Neoliberal Belonging by Pamela Thoma analyzes how popular genre fiction, written by Asian American women and featuring Asian American characters, depicts both contemporary American-ness and contributes to public dialogue about national belonging. Thoma focuses on how such fiction addresses attempts women, make in a neoliberal society, to balance their personal and professional lives. Book club sessions are open to the public. If one has not read the book, one is still encouraged to attend and participate in discussion.

Jill Stanek: An Insider's View on Abortion in Mainstream Medicine

Jill Stanek will give a presentation on the challenges she has faced from the news media and politicians for her pro-life views as a medical practitioner turned activist.  She is a major voice for life in the controversial issue of abortion and will describe her experiences in Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois, a site where victims of failed abortions, in other words, born-alive infants, were allowed to die after delivery.  Sponsored by UNI Right to Life and St. Stephen the Witness Catholic Student Center.

Habitat for Humanity Fundraiser

On February 24th, February 25, and March 5th Habitat for Humanity is raising money for our collegiate challenge, where we will spend a week in Lakeland, Florida over Spring Break building a home for a family in need!  Mention Habitat for Humanity and have 10% of your receipt donated to our cause!  come out to Buffalo Wild Wings and help support us in raising money for the trip!
