Student Affairs

You may choose to visit the UNI campus on a Saturday morning when you and your family can attend a group presentation and a campus tour. There will be information sessions for both high school and transfer students. This option is intended for students who do not need individual counseling, but instead want an overview of admission requirements, academic majors, costs and campus life. After the presentation you and your family are invited to be our guests for lunch at the Piazza, one of UNI's recently renovated dining centers.

Attending one of UNI's Panther Peek Visit Days will give you and your family the opportunity to learn all about your future college life at UNI. We'll show you around campus and let you see the residence halls you'll likely call home. You also will get a chance to talk to UNI representatives about academics and possible majors, financial aid and student life.

R. York Moore will deliver the keynote lecture for Freedom Week. The lecture will highlight the issue of modern-day slavery, explaining the social, spiritual and economic forces behind it and inviting us to respond on a personal and corporate level. Moore has worked as a modern-day abolitionist for 10 years and is the National Campaign Director for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.

Alpha Delta Pi sorority will host its annual all you can eat Lion Share Challenge Spaghetti Dinner. Tickets purchased prior to the event are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-12; children 5 and under are free. Those who purchase a ticket before the event receive a free raffle ticket.Tickets at the door will be $7 for adults and $5 for children. Raffle tickets for gift baskets will be sold at the event; one ticket for $1, six tickets for $5 and 15 tickets for $10. Other activities include Mr. Nick, the balloon twister; bozo buckets; pin the tail on the lion; and a spaghetti eating contest. Proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Multiethnic groups will artistically represent the journey to freedom for communities facing the reality of modern-day slavery around the world.

The Piazza Poolside Picnic Party features tons of great picnic food and good company! Menu items include: hamburgers, brats, pickle wraps, BBQ pork sandwiches, fruit pizza, dirt and worm pudding, ants on a log, and much, much more!

 A local trafficking panel will discuss trafficking from a local and national perspective, current legislation, challenges in law enforcement, restorative process, and present involvement options for our campus and broader community.  

Panelists include Jake Oeth, regional outreach representative for U.S. Congressman Bruce Braley; DVD comments from U.S. Senator Charles Grassley; Dr. Teresa Downing-Matibag, assistant professor, Iowa State University and representative, Iowa Network Against Human Trafficking; Abraham Funchess, director, Waterloo Commission on Human Rights; Melissa Brisbin, client service director, Center to Restore Trafficked and Exploited Children; and Hannah Burkle, Rapha House, Joplin, Mo.

During this candlelight walk across campus, participants will interactively learn about and remember victims of trafficking in our world.
