Prof. Marjorie Cohn, author of The United States and Torture: Interrogation, Incarceration, and Abuse (2011) and Rules of Disengagement: The Politics and Honor of Military Dissent (2009), will be speak on the problems of torture and the role it plays in destroying the possibility of world community. Cohn is professor of law at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego and immediate past president of the National Lawyers Guild. She lectures throughout the world on international human rights and U.S. foreign policy.

UNI Proud will host a discussion of current events that affect the queer and transgender community. Bring news articles or opinions to share with the group.

Attend open mic night and perform your talent, whatever it is. Host for the night is poet Nicole Lyricc, who recently published a book Words Transform.

Enjoy a night of fashion from New York City; this night of East Coast flavor will feature Nicole Lyricc, originally from Waterloo, Iowa, who is a fashion designer and wardrobe stylist in New York City. The fashion show will be co-hosted by MTV's Making the Band member of Day 26, Que, who will also do a special performance.

The Center for Multicultural Education is sponsoring a video conference featuring Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond, the Charles Ducommon professor of education at Stanford University and co-director of the School Redesign Network. She will discuss the Waterloo and Cedar Falls school districts. Darling-Hammond is one of education’s most powerful and provocative voices.
