In its first year, CATALINA magazine earned the “Lead Launch” distinction by Folio magazine and reached an audited circulation of 500,000 by 2004, making it the largest lifestyle magazine targeting Hispanic women in the nation. Since 2000, Areu has been known to millions of newspaper readers for her work as a contributing editor for The Washington Post Magazine. In addition to serving as a regular guest on shows including Fox’s O’Reilly Factor, HLN’s Prime News, and HLN’s Showbiz Tonight, Areu has also appeared on CNN’s AC360, CNN’s Campbell Brown, Fox’s Hannity, and MSNBC’s The Daily Rundown. She has also appeared on NBC’s Today Show, AL Jazeera’s Riz Kahn Show, Telemundo’s Hoy en el Mundo, and Univision’s Despierta America; she has also been a regular contributor to NY1 Noticias, New York’s only 24-hour Spanish news station.

Join UNI staff and faculty, as well as Cedar Valley community members for the book discussion on Wednesday, October 3rd in the Elm Room (Maucker Union), from 12 to 1 p.m. Bring your lunches and come to share your thoughts on the Great Migration.

Julian Bond: "Reflections on The American Dream"

Legendary as the first black U.S. vice presidential nominee and former Chairman of the NAACP, Bond continues to deliver a powerful message of equality, freedom and justice with a renewed sense of relevance. There will be a meet and greet prior to the lecture from 6-6:45 p.m.; a reception following the lecture has been cancelled. This event is a signature feature of the Reaching for Higher Ground series, the theme of which this year is: "Searching for an American Dream."
