Lifelong University: The Thinking Eye: A Designer Looks at Visual Art

Fri, 03/11/2011 - 1:30pm - 3:00pm

Just as music is the poetry of sound, wrote American artist James A.M. Whistler, so is painting "the poetry of sight.” This is a series of slide talks on art, design, architecture and other kinds of visual art from the viewpoint of a person who sees art not only as self expression but as significant, intricate patterns, based on a “language of vision.” Drawing heavily on psychology, ethology and other topics, these fast-paced presentations look “behind the scenes” at the historic and current use of age-old form principles by artists, designers and architects—as well as musicians and poets. Register on the Lifelong University website.

Lifelong University: Intercultural-intergenerational Listening

Tue, 03/02/2010 - 9:00am - 12:00pm

We spend more time in listening than in almost any other activity, and yet, we take listening for granted. This workshop will focus on listening effectiveness as we interact with members of other cultures and co-cultures. While the focus is on intercultural listening, participants will also look at the similarities and differences in listening to younger generations as well as other cultures. The workshop is highly interactive and will include both discussion and application activities. Register on the Lifelong University website.
