Fall Full Faculty Meeting

The annual fall full faculty meeting will include addresses from the president, provost, chair of the faculty, Faculty Senate chair and president of United Faculty as well as presentation of faculty awards and introduction of new faculty. A reception will follow.

Using Newspapers in the Classroom

The Northern Iowan Student Government is once again making national newspapers available on campus. John Johnson, history dept., and Gerri Perreault, communication studies dept., will provide ideas for using newspapers in the classroom setting. This event is co-sponsored by the American Democracy Project with additional sponsorship by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost.

Assessing Your Students Using Bb Learn 9

Bb Learn 9 offers a number of assessment tools including an online assignment tool for students to submit assignments electronically and a tool for online delivery of tests and surveys. Additionally, UNI has licensed the Turnitin Building Block which gives Blackboard users convenient access to Turnitin’s suite of learning tools, including Originality Check (plagiarism prevention) and GradeMark™, from within the Bb Learn 9 environment. This session will address each of these tools as well as resources to assist you in using them. UNI Fall Faculty Workshop

Guest speaker for the annual UNI Fall Faculty Workshop will be Dr. Todd Zakrasjek, visiting associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Zakrasjek will lead a day-long workshop on “How Students Learn: Strategies for Teaching from the Psychology of Learning.” For more information please contact Alisa Weeks.
