Executive Vice President and Provost

“New Music Concert”

UNI Gallery of Art Concert Series, in association with the exhibition “Remix: Art and Sound Unbound” featuring avant-garde music and art. Performers include Jeffrey Funderburk and Sandy Nordahl from the UNI School of Music as well as guest artist Peter Hamlin from Middlebury College, Middlebury, VT.

UNI/AEA 267 Regional Physics Competition

The Department of Physics will host the UNI/Area Education Agency 267 Regional Physics Competition. High school students from Cedar Falls, Denver, Dike-New Hartford, Dunkerton, East Buchanan, Fairbank, Gilbertville, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, Janesville, Jesup, La Porte City, Nashua-Plainfield, Sumner, Traer, Tripoli, Waterloo and other area schools are expected to participate.

The Physics Competition is a series of five competitive physics events for high school students in grades 9-12. The competition stresses creativity and ingenuity as well as understanding of physics related principles and is intended to stimulate interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).  Events include: catapult, mousetrap car, toothpick bridge, soda straw arm, and challenge problem. Regional winners and runners-up advance to the State of Iowa Physics Competition held on April 17, 2014, at the McLeod Center. 

220 East After-Work: Amanda McCandless, clarinet

The College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences presents 220east After-Work, a partnership between CHAS, Cedar Valley Chamber Music, JSA Development and Main Street Waterloo. Look forward to your Wednesday evenings by joining Cedar Valley Chamber Music for our 2014 concert series at 220east. UNI faculty and students, WCF Symphony guest soloists and special guests highlight eleven week of concerts at a unique venue. Doors open at 5 p.m.; concerts are 5:15-6 p.m. Admission is free; good will donations accepted. Complimentary wine at all concerts is provided in partnership with CU restaurant. 

Using Reflection for Service Learning and Community Engagement Activities

The final session in a three part series called "Assessing Service-Learning and Community Engagement Activities".

Reflection activities can help participants in service and community engagement activities can deepen and extend the learning they gained from their experiences. In addition, the use of strategies for reflection can provide faculty and programs with evidence of the impact of the experiences they have created for students and other participants. The workshop, led by Donna Vinton, Office of Academic Assessment, will provide a variety of examples and resources for making use of reflection inside and outside of classroom settings.
