Teaching First-Year Students at UNI: What We Know From Cornerstone

This session is led by April Chatham-Carpenter, Nikki Zumbach Harken, Deedee Heistad, Susan Hill and Susan Roberts-Dobie.  How well are UNI's incoming first-year students prepared for college? What do they need to know to be successful in college? Faculty who have taught UNI's Cornerstone course talk about their experiences teaching first-year students, along with some strategies for helping the first-year students in your classes acclimate to UNI. Sponsored by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost.

New Academic Policies: What You Need To Know

Four new academic policies have been put into place this year: the Student Academic Ethics Policy (a revised policy); Class Attendance and Make-Up Work (a revised policy); Personal Electronic Devices in the Classroom (a new policy); and 12.01 Student Academic Grievance (a revised policy). Gayle Rhineberger-Dunn, educational policies committee, and Mike Licari, associate provost for academic affairs, will be at this session to highlight the changes in these policies and answer questions about them. Sponsored by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost.

Flipping the Classroom

This session is led by Dawn Del Carlo, chemistry, and explores how to open up the classroom to alternate activities by moving content delivery to outside the classroom via on-line lectures. This workshop will not be about how to use Panopto technology per se, but more about how the technology can be used to change your pedagogy. Sponsored by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost. For more information, contact Susan Hill, susan.hill@uni.edu.

Tips for Teaching Large Classes

Sponsored by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost.
