Faculty development: "Turn It In"

Two of the most common faculty complaints are that students don't understand plagiarism and how to avoid it, and that grading papers is too time consuming. This session shows how can help teach students about plagiarism and help faculty grade papers efficiently. Led by Jason Vetter, ITS-Educational Technology, and Susan Hill, Philosophy and World Religions. Refreshments served. Sponsored by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost.

Graduate College Brown Bag Lecture

Amy Petersen, associate professor in the Department of Special Education in the College of Education, will present a summary of her research “Exploring Current Literacy Practices of Strategist II Special Educators Across Iowa.” This research project examines the knowledge, instructional practices and dispositions of teachers who serve students with significant disabilities.

Faculty Development: Creative Controversy--A Classroom Strategy for Critical Thinking, Collaborative Learning and Small Group Discussion

Susan Hill will introduce and discuss David and Roger Johnson’s “Creative Controversy,” a step-by-step small group process that requires participants to engage multiple perspectives on a controversial issue.

Diversity Inclusion Lecture: "On Sundown Towns: A Hidden Dimension of American Racism"

“On Sundown Towns: A Hidden Dimension of American Racism," will be presented by Dr. James W. Loewen, one of the most acclaimed historians and sociologists of race in the United States. The Diversity Inclusion Lecture is an inaugural event, dedicated to the memory of Drake Martin, known for his commitment to diversity inclusion.
