The College of Education will offer a free webinar for educators entitled "A Framework for Culturally Responsive Teaching." This webinar will introduce participants to the theory of culturally responsive teaching. Participants will also explore elements for creating a culturally responsive classroom. Special emphasis will be given to the power of caring, culture and communication, cooperation and competition, classroom discipline and connecting home and school. The Study Abroad Center will present information about an opportunity to receive your organizational management credit while traveling in South Africa (think safaris, beautiful coastlines and adventure).

Under the direction of UNI School of Music professor of tuba Jeffrey Funderburk, the UNITUBA Ensembles will offer a fall recital. This event is free and open to the public.

Donald Gaff, Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology, will present "Flakes to First Lady:  Public Archaeology in Waterloo, Iowa." The event is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of UNI School of Music professor of viola Julia Bullard, the UNI Viola Studio will offer a fall concert. This event is free and open to the public.

Study Abroad will present information about summer study abroad programs.

International Clothing Fashion Show featuring students from different countries displaying traditional outfits from their respective country.

Continuing and Distance Education will host their annual distance and blended learning conference.   Experts in the field will present along with UNI faculty, staff and students. There is no cost and lunch is provided.  RSVP by Friday, Nov. 11.

The College of Humanities and Fine Arts Senate is pleased to announce that Dr. Paul Siddens, associate professor of communication studies, is the recipient of the 2011 CHFA Faculty Excellence Award (awarded prior to the merger of CHFA & CNS).  He will give a lecture titled “From Funny Books to Graphic Novels: Teaching and Researching Comics.”  This event is free and open to the public with a reception following. Meredith Smith, bereavement coordinator at Iowa Hospice, will discuss grief and coping with death among children. This event is free and open to the public.
