The theme of the 2013 symposium will be “Expanding Ideas of Scholarship in the 21^st Century”. This biennial day-long conference is designed to showcase current research, scholarship and creative activity by UNI faculty and staff; and to stimulate engaging dialogue on current topics related to scholarship in higher education. Faculty and administrators from Western Carolina University will participate. WCU is a public comprehensive institution like UNI and has been developing and publishing new ideas about various forms of scholarship for a number of years. In addition to sharing their own experiences and ideas, the team from WCU will facilitate discussion about how scholarship is being defined and assessed at UNI and across the U.S. in these changing times in higher education. WCU offers training, workshops and institutional retreats on these topics across the country through their Coulter Faculty Commons for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. In addition to panels and break-out sessions around the theme, an open poster and performance session will be held for faculty and staff from across campus to display and discuss their scholarship. This event is free and open to faculty and staff at UNI. Registration is required. 

Office of Sponsored Programs will be hosting a lecture on "Ethics in Science Communications" by Clark Wolf from Iowa State University. He will be providing a lecture on ethical issues involved in how scientists communicate with the public about their research.  All are welcome. This event is being co-sponsored by OSP and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts and will be held in CME.

Connexus is an opportunity to make meaningful scholarly connections across campus in an informal social setting.  UNI Connexus participants are matched with UNI colleagues for one-on-one conversations to discuss research interests, areas of expertise and potential scholarly collaboration. In addition, participants can engage others in topical small group discussions, as well as mingle and enjoy an afternoon of networking. This event is open only to UNI staff and faculty. Participants must pre-register.

Representatives from the Iowa Energy Center will visit UNI to provide an overview of the IEC Competitive Grant Program and answer questions from faculty and staff.
