"Grading Matters at Least One Order of Magnitude More Than You Think it Does" will be presented by Shawn Cornally, a math and science teacher in rural Iowa. He daily fears that his students are bored and that it's his fault. He believes in lessons that teach themselves and grades that only reflect learning. This event is open to all future and current  teachers, esecially those in STEM-based fields, and to anyone interested in standard-based grading.

Jeff Weld, executive director of the Governor's STEM Advisory Council, will update the university community on the progress of the Council's efforts to move STEM (science, technology engineering & mathematics) education and innovation forward within the state.  A question and answer time will follow the presentation. Free; refreshments served.

Information about upcoming activities of the Governor's STEM Advisory Council will be provided. Discussion will include regional STEM networks for Iowa, scale-up of exemplary programs and action planning on seven priorities (including teacher recruitment, public awareness, STEM pipeline diversity and public-private partnerships). Fair is Not Equal - Honoring Diversity and Equity in Today's Mathematics & Science Classroom is the first Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program-sponsored webinar.
