Dr. Susan Hill, Philosophy & World Religions, will present “Gluttons and Fat Bodies:  Gendered Representations from the Ancient Western World.” The Women’s & Gender Studies Program sponsors the Current Research on Women Forum Series. Dr. Gail Dines, anti-pornography activist, lecturer and author will discuss the inner working of the porn industry, including the creation of media images of gender, sex and sexuality, and how such imagery contributes to violence against women. Dr. Dines' discussion is free and open to the public. No one under 18 admitted to presentation. This event is co-sponsored by Women’s & Gender Studies and the YWCA of Blackhawk County. Kara Blanchard, Director of Admission and Financial Aid at Drake Law School will talk about preparing for and applying to law school. A great opportunity to learn more about law school in general and Drake in particular. Anyone interested in law school is encouraged to attend. Pizza and soda provided. Gregory Bruess, Department of History, will present "The Greek Passion:  Individual Martyrdom and National Salvation at a Greek Civil War Memorial."  The event is free and open to the public.

Campus and community members are invited to the 6th annual Safe Date Tailgate for a free pre-Homecoming game barbeque lunch, exciting raffles and giveaways. The Safe Date Tailgate raises awareness about domestic violence by providing resources to students and the community about healthy relationships as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This event is sponsored by Women’s and Gender Studies, Violence Intervention Services, Feminist Action League, SAVE Forum Actors, UNI Athletics, Seeds of Hope, University Book and Supply and the Gilbertville Locker.

Please join us for Public Policy's 20th Anniversary Celebration reception. Contributions of faculty and staff who have supported the program over the years will be recognized.

A panel of alumni who hold leadership positions in community and economic development will speak on the topic “Current Issues in Community Development.” The panel provides an opportunity to showcase some of the accomplishments of public policy alumni.

The Daniel Webster Law Society and Prelaw Club will host Collins Byrd, assistant dean of admissions at the University of Iowa College of Law. Byrd will discuss the law school admissions process in general and UI's program in particular.
