Gail Dines: "Supersexed: Pop Culture Images of Women in a Porn Culture"
Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 10/19/2011 - 6:30pmDr. Gail Dines, anti-pornography activist, lecturer and author will discuss the inner working of the porn industry, including the creation of media images of gender, sex and sexuality, and how such imagery contributes to violence against women. Dr. Dines' discussion is free and open to the public. No one under 18 admitted to presentation. This event is co-sponsored by Women’s & Gender Studies and the YWCA of Blackhawk County. It is funded in part by the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences; Executive Vice President & Provost's Office; Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare; College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences; College of Education; Violence Intervention Services; Dean of Students Office; and Department of Sociology, Anthropology & Criminology.

The Safe Date Tailgate raises awareness about domestic violence by providing resources to students and the community about healthy relationships as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This event is sponsored by Women’s and Gender Studies, Violence Intervention Services, Feminist Action League, SAVE Forum Actors, UNI Athletics, Seeds of Hope, University Book and Supply and the Gilbertville Locker.
