UNI School of Music faculty artist Jeff Brich will present a voice recital with additional performers and repertoire to be announced. This event is free and open to the public.

Several focus groups will be held November 7-10 as part of the Town Hall residency by Sojurn and TEAM theatre companies to explore the Iowa caucus process. Carl Kurtz will discuss his native seed production process including seasonal management of the production site, harvesting method, machinery required, yield in pounds/acre and species diversity, bagging process, seed analysis and marketing strategy. Kurtz is a multi-talented naturalist and farmer who does freelance writing, photography, teaching, lecturing, tallgrass prairie reconstruction and produces native prairie seed. He is probably best known for his photography with photos appearing nationwide in more than 50 publications and is the author of Iowa’s Wild Places and A Practical Guide to Prairie Reconstruction.

Visiting artists the Zodiac Ensemble will present a recital. Comprised of reedsmen Aaron Kruziki and Mike Bjella, bassist Karl McComas-Reichl, and drummers Colin Stranahan and Devin Drobka, the Zodiac Ensemble has given concerts across the United States, Europe, South America, Africa and Asia. The Zodiac's unique style is based around strong melody and group improvisation informed by the New York jazz scene, Armenian folk music, honesty, American top 40, sacred music and their collective classical background. This event is free and open to the public.

This showcase features talented student finalists competing for the title of Instrumental Concerto Competition winner, and the opportunity to perform as soloist with a premiere School of Music large ensemble in the spring. This event is ticketed. For tickets, call (319) 273-4TIX.

Coordinated by faculty artist Julia Bullard, the UNI Viola Festival will offer hands on workshops as well as a performance by guest artist Patricia McCarty, viola, at 8 p.m. on Friday, November 4 in Davis Hall, as well as a Festival Gala Concert at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 5 in Davis Hall. This event is free and open to the public.
