Presented by the RRTTC, this film follows why honeybees have been mysteriously disappearing across the planet, literally vanishing from their hives. Known as Colony Collapse Disorder, scientists puzzle over the cause. Organic beekeepers indicate alternative reasons for this tragic loss and after years of research, a definitive answer has not been found to this harrowing mystery.

Paul Deaton from Physicians for Social Responsibility will speak about nuclear energy in Iowa. Deaton has been speaking and writing about nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear energy since 2009.  He will discuss the relationship between nuclear proliferation and nuclear power, and give an update on the bills in the Iowa legislature regarding the proposed nuclear plant for Iowa.

Under the direction of UNI School of Music professor of tuba Jeffrey Funderburk, the UNITUBA Ensembles will offer a fall recital. This event is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of UNI School of Music professor of viola Julia Bullard, the UNI Viola Studio will offer a fall concert. This event is free and open to the public.

The College of Humanities and Fine Arts Senate is pleased to announce that Dr. Paul Siddens, associate professor of communication studies, is the recipient of the 2011 CHFA Faculty Excellence Award (awarded prior to the merger of CHFA & CNS).  He will give a lecture titled “From Funny Books to Graphic Novels: Teaching and Researching Comics.”  This event is free and open to the public with a reception following. The Recycling & Reuse Technology Transfer Center will have a booth in Maucker Union with recycling information, including recycling locations on and off-campus. America Recycles Day is a great reminder for all of us to promote recycling practices in your circle of friends, at work and at home.  RRTTC staff members will also be on campus looking to reward people they find recycling on America Recycles Day so remember to “Get Your Green On” and maybe you’ll be one of our lucky winners.

Under the direction of faculty artist and professor Yu-Ting Su, the UNI Horn Choir will offer a fall recital. This event is free and open to the public.

Based on the acclaimed book by ecologist and cancer survivor Sandra Steingraber, Living Downstream is an eloquent and cinematic documentary.  The film follows Sandra during one pivital year as she travels across North America, working to break the silence about cancer and its environmental links.

The UNI Suzuki School will present their bi-annual recital weekend. This event is free and open to the public.
