Northern Festival of Bands

The Northern Festival of Bands, an annual band festival for high school band students, which typically hosts over 40 schools and over 250 individual students, will be held February 9-11, 2012. The event will feature performances by the UNI Wind Symphony and UNI Symphonic Band on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. as well as Saturday afternoon’s 2 p.m. performance featuring solo competition winners, the festival’s percussionist groups, Festival Concert Band and Festival Symphony Band. "Times, Interludes and Actions: Performances in Response to the First Decade of the New Millennium"

An invitational exhibition curated by Jeffery Byrd, head of the UNI art department, and Joe Meiser, assistant professor of art at Bucknell University, will feature Jiawei Gong’s Sweet Salvation. Exhibitors include Marilyn Arsem, Eun Woo Cho, A. Jacob Galle, Nestor Armando Gil, Jiawei Gong, Hillerbrand + Magsamen, Jeanne Jo, Kyoung Eun Kang, Jordan McKenzie, Takeshi Moro, Jennifer Seibert, Gary Setzer, Bradly Dever Treadaway and Jordan Tynes. The exhibition also features Rachel Rosenthal’s limited edition artist book "Soldier of Fortune."

Guest Artist Recital: Philip Brisson, organ

Visiting artist Philip Brisson will present an organ recital. Brisson is Director of Music and Organist at the Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption in downtown Louisville, the oldest inland Catholic cathedral in continuous use in the country. In addition to his duties at the Cathedral, Brisson is also Chorusmaster for the Kentucky Opera. Brisson is on the faculty of Bellarmine University and as an organ soloist, he has given recitals throughout the United States. This event is free and open to the public.
