Visiting artist Susan Rider will present a trumpet recital, featuring School of Music faculty artists Randy Grabowski, trumpet, and Polina Khatsko, piano. Rider is a trumpet instructor and is a member of "The President's Own" Marine Band. She attended the University of Northern Iowa and Indiana University. She has been an instructor at Indiana University, Purdue University, and Ector County Independent Schools. She is the co-editor for the International Women's Brass Conference Newsletter and has performed with numerous groups including the New World Symphany, Robert Guilliaume, and The Moody Blues. This event is free and open to the public.

The vision of Celebrating Colors: Women - Past, Present and Future is to highlight women’s accomplishments. The celebration will showcase women who have gone before us, to honor women who are setting and accomplishing goals in the present and to encourage young women for the future. There are three phases to the evening. Past: selected students will present on women of the past, their challenges and achievements. Present: selected women from the campus and the community will be honored for their accomplishments, discuss their struggles and offer advice for the future. Future: selected student groups will give their vision and/or mission statements, talk about some of their struggles and/or challenges on campus and in the community, and preview upcoming events.

Visit the UNI Observatory to learn about the objects in the night sky and view the planets through the Earth Science telescope. Free and open to the public. Meet near the polar bear outside of 137 McCollum Science Hall before 9 p.m. Late arrivals will not be admitted.

Maid in America is a documentary about three Latin American immigrant women in Los Angeles, Calif. who left their families behind in order to earn a living caring for other people’s children, as well as cleaning other people’s homes.

The Men in Feminism panel will examine men’s roles as feminists and how men can advocate for women’s rights. The panelists are: Harry Brod, philosophy & world religions; Alan Heisterkamp, Mentors in Violence Prevention program; Mark Rowe-Barth, Substance Abuse & Violence Intervention Services; Adam Livengood, graduate student; and David Pope, undergraduate student.

The "Writers Talk" Reading Series will host a poetry reading by Waterloo native Sandy Longhorn, author of the poetry collection Blood Almanac. This book won the 2005 Anhinga Prize for Poetry. Longhorn teaches at Pulaski Technical College and lives in Little Rock, Arkansas. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry from the University of Arkansas in 2003. This event is free and open to the public.

Discussion of Ismael Beah’s A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, a 2008 memoir about the 11-year civil war in Sierra Leone and the scourge (and rehabilitation) of child soldiers.

The UNI/AEA 267 Regional Physics Competition (formerly known as Physics Olympics) is a series of six competitive physics events for high school students in grades 9-12. The competition stresses creativity and ingenuity as well as understanding of physics related principles and is intended to stimulate interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Events include:  self-propelled catapult, mousetrap car, bridge building, soda straw arm, challenge problem and material recovery facility (MRF). The MRF is sponsored by the Iowa Recycling Association. Regional winners and runners-up advance to the State of Iowa Physics Competition held on April 11, 2012 at the McLeod Center.
