The Planets, Reimagined with artist Gary Kelley

Artist Gary Kelley brings Gustav Holst’s extraordinary magnum opus to life in a riveting and completely unique artistic collaboration with the WCFSO. The 2007 original was one of the most captivating local artistic endeavors in recent memory; this reimagined version of Gary Kelley’s Planets takes the project to a new level, with additional artwork, expanded story and Scott W. Smith’s cinema-quality HD presentation.The concert will also feature a special appearance by Gary offering insight into the process of creating this unforgettable event.

This season-finale special presentation is the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony at our best, transforming a favorite masterpiece into a truly remarkable sensory experience through our dynamic approach to presentation and performance. This is concert is not to be missed!

Observatory Show

View the evening sky from the UNI observatory located on the roof of McCollum Science Hall. Meet near the polar bear outside of room 137 before 9 p.m. to be escorted to the roof. The event goes forward regardless of the weather. Potential targets for viewing through the telescope include the Saturn and various nebula.

Final Thursday Reading Series: Jen Percy

The Final Thursday Reading Series of 2012-13 concludes with a reading by Jen Percy, author of Demon Camp: A Soldier’s Exorcism. The book details the story of a Special Ops soldier returned from Afghanistan with PTSD who seeks solace in people who profess to be exorcists. In so doing, it tells a story about the United States in an era of war, exploring the lives of soldiers and widows in the fragile period after the war.

Open mic signup is at 7 p.m. and begins at 7:15 p.m. Share your best five minutes of poetry, fiction or creative nonfiction. Singer/songwriters are welcome and can use of the Hearst Center's grand piano. Percy will take the stage at 8 p.m. followed by Q&A as time allows.
