Symphony of the Soil is the first film in the Fall Environmental Film series hosted by UNI Recycling & Reuse Technology Transfer Center and the Healthy Cedar Valley Coalition. The film focuses on our relationship with the soil and our use and misuse of it.

UNI student affiliates of the American Chemical Society (ACS), Delta Iota chapter of the Beta Beta Beta biological honor society and the UNI Physics Club will host a “Halloween House." There will be a variety of Halloween-themed demonstrations, in rooms such as the “Devil’s Den," “Frankenstein’s Lab,” Mummy’s Yummies” and “Grossology Lab.”
The event is free and open to children of all ages. UNI students in costume will help children with hands-on chemistry activities, such as making liquid-nitrogen ice cream and gak.
Halloween House is held in conjunction with National Chemistry Week and is a program of the ACS designed to reach the public with a positive message about chemistry.
View the evening sky from the UNI observatory located on the roof of McCollum Science Hall. Meet near the polar bear outside of room 137 before 9 p.m. to be escorted to the roof. The event goes forward regardless of the weather.
This event connects spoken word and slam poets from across Iowa. Featured performers include Josh Hamzehee, Melina Gotera, Yaw Kyeremateng, Zora Hurst, Kate Krohn, Christian Roth and Jerica Crawford. Sponsored by the UNI Interpreters Theatre, INK! Performance Slam in Cedar Falls, Voicebox Poetry Slam in Cedar Rapids and Was the Word in Iowa City.
Under the direction of UNI School of Music faculty artist and conductor John Len Wiles the UNI Varsity Men’s Glee Club will offer a shared fall choral music concert with the UNI Women’s Chorus, led by visiting artist Dyan Meyer. This event is free and open to the public.
Hear a personal story of relationship violence, find out how you can prevent relationship violence and learn how relationship violence is prevented in the Cedar Valley. Following the event, participants will have the opportunity to view the Clothesline Project between the trees near the Campanile. Flashilghts will be provided. This event is open to faculty, staff, students and community members free of charge.
Dr. Chrisopher Cheatum, from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Iowa, will present "Two-Dimensional Infrared Spectroscopy: New Tools to Study Enzyme Catalysis."
